Gauteng Online mess

The laptop I use daily as a desktop/laptop is older than all the 2 billion rand computers that they say aren't useful anymore.
How can all those computers have to be replaced? IMO it shows the worth of buying something yourself lasting much longer than being given something.

You didn't read the article hey? The PC's are leased.

Not sure if it is all the equipment that belongs to Cloudseed or only the telecoms equipment ,network cables or includes everything.
Leasing a PC for 5 year makes no sense as it depreciates over 3 and you would pay more in lease than what is worth. Maybe because of theft or even overuse PCs would need to be replaced often but from the article it sounds like the supplier does not have the capacity to even install labs in all the schools despite being paid to do so as well as as not be motivated to replace PCs in existing schools diligently hence the schools saying the labs are not useful.

The Gauteng government would have messed up by allowing all infrastructure to belong to Cloudseed. Removing and recabling all those schools because the cables doesn't belong to the scool would be ridiculous.

Yes, if you have not seen these centres you should check them out. What a disaster. Our school has locked the centre and has its own centre now that we the parents have paid for. Personally I am not interested in this project as it has the typical incompetency of government behind it. It seems that anything the Gauteng government gets its hands on is never handled competently and efficiently.

Current government seems synonymous with failure, but hey give them another chance!

That article is factually incorrect in many instances.

The contractor was not paid to install 2200 schools, it was paid to install 1600 schools odd. The mandate was met, which was confirmed by numerous Auditor General and Departmental reports. Hence what I say that this article is factually incorrect.

The contract was awarded under an operating lease. That means all the operational risk and liabilities in terms of the entire solution fall on the contractor.

this is what I don't like about our government.

They should have a special division in government that do things like this than pay 3rd parties who enrich themselves.

You want another SITA?
