Gautrain calls for govt help

How about using my tax money to do your job like erm I dont know, prevent crime?

Is that not what the Police are for?

Seriously? The HUGE investment on the part of the taxpayers and this incredibly great opportunity for Johannesburg should just be burned to the ground?!

Let me guess, you're one of those complete idiots who goes on strike and considers it your right to also destroy government and private property at will?

Let's hope you are not involved in government or any other position of leadership!

What we should be asking is, "How do the organisation plan on fixing this problem on their own if government provides no assistance?"

A note on the request for government assistance; I think they want a change in legislation, not financial aid and this would benefit other organisations like Telkom and Eskom. But I do agree that it is their responsibility to fix this with or with the legislation. How about a little innovation people?

The crux of the matter is copper theft and the sale of it. The practise needs to be stopped somehow.

If it was such an "incredibly great opportunity for Johannesburg" then why was it only undertaken with government financing and government guarantees lasting years into the future...?

I only saw this now and I think the point is valid. It just goes to show how much we love to criticise even when we don't know the whole story.

Only, I still think Bombela should take action anyway because this issue is still theirs. It may affect the bottom line but surely the impact this has on customers, the economy of Gauteng/SA, etc. and ultimately on the Gautrain is well worth it? They need to work with government instead of just standing back and leaving all the responsibility to someone else.
 
I blame it all on the government - they have been really slack in implementing measures to control cable theft !

They get R300 million a year guaranteed from the government. You think they really need to give a **** whether the white elephant runs or not or if it even makes a profit? Privatizing profits and socializing losses, ain't fascism grand!

How can it become Bombela's responsibility to safeguard Eskom's sub-stations?

Bombela are correct; the government needs to step in and use all the resources at their disposal to stamp out copper cable theft. The first step would be to properly enforce (and possibly amend) the Second Hand Goods Bill.

??? Why cable theft only? Just increase the punishment for any theft.

A properly-implemented BRT system would've been running more smoothly IMO, for a fraction of the price.

Since when have they ever planned? Or been innovative? Or even listened to what the public thinks?

Guvamunt has looked upon theft/crime has a subtle form of re-distribution & therefore neglected to do anything about it! Now that it's going to bite them in the @rse - you think they gonna take any form of action? Not on yer Nelly!
Don't forget, cable thieves, informal settlements & criminals form the largest voter base for the ANC! And their reward for this? "Go steal, do whatever! Freebies out the for you"
