Please have a look @ this. Will this work like a LAN or must both PC's be connected to the internet and it will act as a server?

Im still struggling with my LAN and spotted this little program, hoped it could help me. View first problems here

Problem with my LAN is: It is connected and windows shows no problems. It shows packets sent and received.See pic Only got working for 15min but had to leave for the weekend and switched both computers of. Now it does not show any of the PC's in My Network places. I have refreshed till I'm blue in the face. No settings were changed. I've been trying the whole day to get it to recognize each other on the LAN. See time counter on pic.

Dont know what do do anymore. I still have about 60GB of stuff to transfer.

What does the output of ipconfig shows you?

Go to start, run, and type in cmd, and press enter.

At the prompt type in ipconfig (and press enter).

A couple of numbers should come up on your screen, something similar to this :

Code:
U:\>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : home.co.za
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.121
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.254

Ethernet adapter VirtualBox Host Interface 1:

        Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

U:\>

Paste the output of both PC's here.

By the looks of it, gbridge will act as server and the PC's will have to be connected to the Internet - I'm not sure whether it'll work locally. I'm sure there's a setting wrong somewhere which prevents the PC's from communicating properly.

Cheers

hmm... Ja it looks like it will work locally for you. As long as you don't have to upload stuff.

But... if you are having problems seeing the two computers... then I dunno if that will make it easier.

best we figure out what is happening to your network.

I also did try the ping command. Worked perfect from the Desktop(XP) to the Laptop(Vista) but just timed out everytime I pinged from the Laptop to the Desktop.

Hope this helps
