Hi all,

I noticed something I wasn't aware of after an early morning drive. I noticed that when my car is off, I can shift gears without depressing my clutch. Is this normal or is it something I should be concerned about? I drive a hyundai i10 1.2 (2014).

Regards,
Gimmegum.

Ok, thanks you guys for the replies. I was getting worried thinking something was damaged.
Lol, as far as the shifting without clutch is concerned, I'll leave it to the pro's. I've only been driving for a month.

Thanks again.

Congrats on being a new driver.

is it safe to do if a clutch cable snaps?
is it actually still possible, or is there a trick to it?
It's still possible, though it's a pain in the rear, I drove back from Pretoria without a clutch :( though they had to refurb gear box as well after the drive.

so if a cable snaps, rather tow it, dont take the risk and drive without a clutch?
too much damage can happen, not worth it in the long run.

I mean I saw a video of a guy driving without a clutch, though it super bizarre,
always imagined you need to know some trick to get it moving from a start.
without a clutch, especially the cable operated ones,

Rev the engine to around 3000rpm try put car into gear, it was not an easy task, luckily my car was already moving and I was 50km from home so I took the chance, it wasn't a good choice to be honest.

for a real experience, try braking once with your left leg (disclaimer: do this on a quiet peice of road with no one behind you and no loose objects inside the car.)

Damn 50km is crazy. I think that I drove about the last km home when my clutch went, and I got lucky to get the car into the garage.

Once on the highway it wasn't so bad, but when smoke started pouring out of the air vents about 5km from home I was like crap I pushed this. Got it into the garage and had it towed to a gearbox place down the road.
