Gearbest.com - Any good?

It's actually strange that priority is way cheaper than DHL considering they deliver the same speed and also charge you the custom/handling fees.
True. For a long while Gearbest was dodgy. They called shipping expedited shipping. Charged you DHL rates saying DHL would deliver then sent with Aramex.

I just order via unregistered air mail and keep it under R500.

That way shipping is like R15, but you wait a long time.

Yeah now I know, they are the only ones I know though that offer priority/Dhl shipping etc at a cheap rate... Most of the other sites like Aliexpress charge alot for shipping like over $50+

A long wait! I also usually order with free shipping especially if it's small items that don't cost much. But when it comes to expensive stuff etc then I wouldn't take my chance with the post office.

Ive used them quite a bit personally - For me its hit and miss, seems like alot of their items are grey products. I have bought many things from them. From long usb cables, fast cellphone chargers, fancy lighting to andriod TV boxes

Most of the time stuff works great but then there is stuff like the USB cables and Fast Chargers. I bought 6x 3m USB cables, all broken now. The Fast Chargers didnt last a week before they just plain stopped working - Ill say this for them at least, they do refund you if you can prove that the item is broken

I have ordered from Gearbest a few times and receives the package from Aramex without any problems a few weeks later.

I now have a package sitting at Gearbest that is packed and ready to ship to me, but now they suddenly have a problem with my address. They say that is is invalid on the couriers system and the can not ship. Wasted a week of back and forth and still a not shipped.

Has anybody had this problem and how do you resolve this?

They have come back to me to say that the zip code is a problem for them.

My postal code is 0181. Not sure what alternative I can give them?

Haven't had your specific problem, but I have to say that my experience with Aramex has been rather negative in general. Any option to request a different courier company?

I have never had a problem with Aramex before except for the high cost of customs clearance.

The order is listed to ship with Middle East Express but my previous orders listed the same, but where delivered by Aramex at my door. Not sure how that works.

I had a problem like this, It happened with DHL and Aramex on different occasions. It usually happens when the Zip code and the place you live don't match up. I have no Idea why this happens.

With the DHL package, I told the people it's the correct address and I have received orders before and they sent the package. The Aramex one I gave the area next to my area so my area code stayed the same but the area changed.

I have to say I only knew to give a different area because TakeAlot gave me the other area when I filled in my address on their site.

Good luck, I know how annoying it can be as it causes delays.

Thank you Insint. Good tip

I have just tried this on Takealot and it insists to use the PO Box code for my local post office. I have sent this code to Gearbest and I hope that this solves the problem.

This has done the trick and my parcel has now shipped. Thanks again Insint.

Problem now is that it shipped as 2 parcels. One with just a Miband2 watch band for $1.46. I hope I will not have to pay Aramex 2x R260 customs clearance fee?

Not likely. Parcels under 32dollars come free direct to you

Here are the shipping options - costs vary by a $ or two depending on the product - does it go through SAPO only via the free option or regardless?:

Hey guys.
Looking to take the plunge by ordering abroad. I'll start with something cheap for like $20 and see how it goes. They've got some nice smart watches on promotion.

Read through this thread and priority shipping is the way to go.
Any reason why registered airmail isn't favoured?

On a product of that amount what should I be looking at in terms of shipping and duty?

TIA.

The free shipping way often takes several months, heck I claimed payment back via Paypal on my last item after not receiving it. 2 months later it arrived.

Was the claim honored or did you get it for free?

Claim was honoured, got my money back and got to keep the stuff :)

This just happened to me as well, even though I've shipped from them before using the same address and same courier (Aramex). After a week of back and forth I cancelled my order, I'm done with gearbest.

Gearbest and Aramex are morons. Simple solution. Remove city from address. Use suburb. problem solved
