Gearbest.com - Any good?

So whats the difference with priority line and DHL shipping? I bought my phone from them and used DHL because I felt it was faster and safer and arrived in like a week... But had no idea priority line is cheaper and delivers quick too. What's the Catch? Some hidden fees or something?

No real difference except Dhl costs 3 times more. When gearbest was extra shady they used to charge for DHL and call it expedited shipping then send goods with aramex
 
Did two orders and paid for the $20ish shipping option and they both took about a week.

Ah wish i knew this when I ordered my phone last year. Would have saved like $30

So this bypasses the post office and gets delivered by a courier? Like how DHL would
 
How are the customs on the electronics bought on GB?

Yes. Same process as DHL

Well I paid around R300 customs when ordered my phone... I think it also depends on what you order. They do declare the price low to help.
 
With courier often handling fee is more than duty. DHL and Aramex charge r250. So duty might be r80 but handling fee R250 total with vat to be paid

So how does this duty thing work? With amazon it's included in the price (Item price + Delivery + Import Fees Deposit), but on Gearbest it wasn't (Only Item + Deliver). Does that mean I'll get a separate invoice from the courier that I'll need to pay or something like that? Please forgive my ignorance!

Yes. With Aramex they will contact you if there's duty to be paid. They will email invoice. You pay then they secure release and couple days later deliver.

Do not use T N T couriers , they may look cheaper but have a business tactic of getting your item here then hitting you with a massively inflated "clearing" customs charge , plenty reports on different sites even a few on hello peter

Edit - if i am at fault for mentioning companies/sites could a mod somehow edit or inform me and i will change it

No it's true. Gearbest however don't use TnT. Geekbuying uses them and they abused me. R450 before vat handling fee . More than double the actual duty. Others charge r250 handling max
 
It's actually strange that priority is way cheaper than DHL considering they deliver the same speed and also charge you the custom/handling fees.
