Good Day,

Trust you are well,

I need assistance with my car,

I have a opel corsa Lit 2007 model with a recently new clutch that is in the car, for some my car will not go into 2nd gear or into 5th gear and if you try to make it go into those gears, it refuses,
I am unsure as to what is wrong as i have gotten the car fixed a few months ago,

Please can someone assist in notifying me why my car will not go into those gears,

Thank you so much for your assistance,

Kindest regards
Kim

How high does the clutch catch? Sounds like it might be set too low and not fully disengage.

Other gears are working, seems unlikely to be that as it would not affect certain gears while others are okay. I think perhaps it could be linkages. If OP can answer Stokstert question we will know for sure.

I once had an Opel from Avis which selected two gears at once. When one released the clutch the engine was stalled. In neutral one gear was still selected and the the car could move. No effort whatsoever could get the stuck gear
released. The car had to be loaded on to a low bed trailer and recovered from Copperton to Kimberley.

Struggling to go into first gear at stand still and slowly moving forward, 2nd and third and fourth is fine ( 2nd started working as was giving problems) 5th gear when you try put it in that gear, it goes straight into 3rd gear.

The Selector likely has a worn out bush or is broken all together. It's the sleeve shaft on which the selector runs up and down selecting the gears. If the bushes are worn out badly it can skip gears.

Corsas have a gear selector cable, instead of links like VW for example. Needs to be replaced every 10 years or so.

Available from Goldwagen for about 1.5k.

Sound slightly complicated to be a linkage issue. Just want to get something right,

Take it to a gearbox place to check out.

How would I know if it is that? Would I have to take it in?
Easy the car won't go into gear even when the engine is not running, the gear lever would usually feel limp, not having any resistance when putting it into gear.

The most common problem on the Corsa is those linkages, that's why it was my firs thought. Remove the battery and the battery tray, you will see the two cables coming from the gear lever towards the gearbox. What usually breaks is the black plastic brackets that facilitates the tension needed for gear changes.

These are easier to diagnose since they are never intermittent, when they are broken, that's it, you will never get the gears until you fix the problem.

Part #2 in the image, that is for the utility but it will give you an idea. On Japanese cars those are usually made from steel and they last forever, but Germans prefer the plastic, it becomes brittle over time and the bracket breaks.
