Hi Guys
How are these Geewiz branded inverters?
I see they selling these all in one units (300w modified Sine , 600W Modified Sine , 300W Pure Sine ) which per my calculations cost more or less the same if i built it myself.
I Only need it for TV and a media player -so total usage is under 100W (i'm really overestimating but probably 60/70W) so a 300w would be ok and not really worried about modified / pure sine as I'm currently using a 2000VA UPS modified sine on the TV and no issues (unless there's any reason to spend 200-500 more for more wats or a pure sine) - it actually goes for around 3 hours(keeping batteries just about 40% reserve) so ok ish for a typical load shedding but if you in Welties once load shedding is over they always seem to Trip something else so lights stays off for like 8 hours :(
I could mod the one i got but i do need it so the kids can watch tv as well and it's still under warranty.

Well for what it's worth, I have a 300 watt inverter from Makro (R499) with a 102 A/H battery and it runs a separate circuit in my house which feeds 6 x 11 watt lights (switchable) and my 55" TV set + SD-PVR which during load shedding is approx 160 watts, around 13 amps off the battery and testing it during a 4 hour break, it ran for exactly 3.5 hours.
System has been running for about 18 months now and never had a problem.

Do you know if Makro still have them? That sounds cheap...

You won't have an issue with them. I would recommend going for the 600 Watt modified sinewave thou. Always leave space for expansion. Ideally get 2 x 105AH batteries as well.

Why not mod your RCT as a couple of us have on the forum without any issues. See here and here.

Edit: I had my carpenter build me a wooden cabinet/box for the batteries and UPS.

sounds quite cheap? is that a charger inverter in 1? did you wire this directly in the board if so how do you isolate this?- my only concern with that is if the inverters noisy the Db is in my daughters room so might be an issue?

I can afford the R200 bucks or so more for the 600 watt - but cant afford an extra battery currently :( living on a tight budget - I actually signed up to work over time to pay for all this.
As for modding my current ups i will try it though my skills are very novice when it comes to this - i don't want to blow the unit and not have a back up:D - not to mention plan on using this for the kids in the mean time

Same, I got someone else to do my modification.
Well if you're under 100 Watts, you shouldn't go below 50% Depth of Discharge during the 2 hour load shedding window.

You're good to go :)

Well we are on Inverter power now as i type :)

Yes they do as I was there yesterday.
The 300 Watt is now R599 and they also have a 600 watt for R2599 and a 1200 watt for R2999.
Everyone is on the band wagon, I'm sure they all have a agreement with Eskom :D
Do yourself a favour and go to your local computer shop, buy a 600 watt UPS, throw the batteries out and put in 1 or 2 x 50 A/H jobs and it will cost you a hell of a lot less than a dedicated Inverter.

The 300 watter is an Inverter only but the 600 watter and the 1200 watter have everything you need.
No I did not wire it into my DB board, I have a totally separate circuit in the ceiling with 6 lights and 3 plugs.
In this way I do not need to have a certificate etc and and can remove it if I sell the house.
Just make sure you clear it with you house property insurance company.
Regarding noise, I have the inverter in the laundry which is on the other side of the double garage, about 40 meters away from the house.
I use 2.5 mm Surfix to run the 230 volt to the house and in the ceiling.

these guys at Geewiz seem like good okes
I emailed them with some questions, and they were quite helpful - not in a rush to sell me anything or push me to the more expensive options. Just good advice.

Been to chat to them twice. Nice lads. No trouble exchanging a faulty item from Mecer. Delivery next day.
