Do you swap this card between 2 PCs on (almost) daily basis?
 
no. as i said before, the card was working fine (sort of) 2 days ago. the pc had been shutting down for, what was then no apparent reason, during game. earlier today i took my lady's pc home with me and tested the card in my machine and the same **** happened. so no, the card had not been swapped between 2 pc on an almost regular basis.

its still broke :/

As for your friend's problem. I'd say there's a good chance it's overheating or the powersupply isn't strong enough.

Figure out what his 12V rail is capable of, and monitor temps while gaming to figure out if it's one of those two.

The other possibility could just be a bad card in general, there was a few 6600gt's that the heatsink doesn't sit all the way flush on the gpu and causes problems similiar to the one shown in that screenshot, but I've never seen it that bad.

"Also almost forgot to mention, make sure the fan still works on the card. GPU fans are known to die, so there's a good chance that could be the problem too.

Another possibility could just be that the heatsink needs to be cleaned. A can of duster will fix that right up."

Download aquamark, run the demo and tell us if it crashes and what your score is, also make double sure its seated properly when you put it in. Also check if your grafix card with a cd. I bought a new 6600 gt a few months ago and it came with a cd with an overclock utility. I installed it and it actually slowed the card down. If you installed the overclock utility I suggest unistalling it asap, use the drivers on the cd and test with aquamark. Last but not least, the game your playing is it a new game or oldie. I've had a few bad experiances with oldies in xpsp2.

Yeah, both PC's have the same mobo, ASUS A8N SLi Deluxe, 500W PSU's. The gfx card that isn't working was quite dusty, but I have cleaned it a bit and made sure the fan is working 100% on it (it always was).

How do I find out what this "12V rail" is capable of?

It doesn't run properly in any games, old or new. The screenshot is from Q3.

Going to see if it can get swapped out for a new one..
 
errm all these answers for a broken card

simple if it doesnt work on 2pc's its fuqed take it back and get a new one

if it was working in the machine and now it isnt nothing changed so again its still fuqed
