Geforce 6800GT problem...

Hey, i just looked down into my case an saw there was a strange green light coming from somewhere, after furthur inspection, i noticed its comming from my graphics card...

I'm worried as i've never noticed this light before, and I dont have the cash to replace this one if it dies...

The manual has nothing on what the light is indicating and as it is now i cant see anything written on the card, and google's not helping much either..

Just woundering if anyone knows what this light may mean, its located near the edge furthest from the external slot, so closest to the front of the machine...

I remember there are lights on AGP cards to prevent you putting a newer 8x card into the older (higher voltage) 2x slots and frying it, but this cant have anything to do wit that cuz its a PCI-e card...

Its a Leadtek GeForce 6800GT PCI-e edition, maybe if someone else has the same card as me can check if theirs also has this little green light on, and proove i'm just feeling a bit paranoid....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

If your talking about the green light, its the power light.

Sorry the reply is a bit late. I have the exact same card and as alchamy said nothing to worry about. Simply a power/Eye candy light thingy.
 
aaah, thanks i've just havent noticed it anytime over the last 6 months, and so i thought it was a problem when i looked down and saw a green light coming from somewhere last night, i must be blind or something...

I just read on the Leadtek forums about this particular problem with the Leadtek GeForce 6800GT PCI-e edition, revision 1.01a. The green light indicates imminent failure due to either:
1. overheating (of the GPU);
2. too many parity errors (for whatever reason); and
3. memory module instability.

There is a big warning on the Leadtek indicating that this could result in possible damage to your other components if the situation is not remedied immediately!

Let me take the card off your hands for about 6 months to "test" it. Yes I know I would be putting my components at risk too, but I'm here to help.

Nearly pooped my pants/Made a clay friend. Then I went searching for these forums to check if it was true. Then came back here and read the last bit of your post. BIG RELIEF. Me felt so silly.

Good one but damn man, not funny when you are not focussed and only read what I read. :D

The last thing you want to do is put your other components at risk.

Heh, I have a Gainward 6800 - This sucker has craploads fo red LEDs underneath the fan housing - It makes the interior of my case glow a bright red. Funky.

I REALLY WANTED THE GAINWARD BUT COULD NOT FIND IT!!!! You have the uber card man. My two previous cards were both Gainward. Nothing better IMO.
