Sam Altman has criticized the AI industry for making the technology appear more frightening than it needs to be, particularly through dire warnings about its potential impact.

Speaking about the industry’s messaging, Altman said many AI builders have been claiming there is a “25% chance we’re going to destroy the world” while also warning that “50% of the jobs” could disappear.

He argued that “we have not as a field done a very good job of explaining to people what the benefits are and how the downsides can be mitigated.” Altman added that the industry has also failed to explain how AI could increase people’s “power and personal freedom.”

Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks, told the 20VC podcast in June 2026 that workers are entering a "Darwinian moment" driven by AI. His warning: 90% of enterprise employees are not AI-savvy, there is no university course that fixes that, and workers must teach themselves independently or face being phased out. Arora is already acting on it, hiring technical staff exclusively through hackathons and planning to transform 20 to 25% of his workforce within 12 months.

The statement lands as 39% of business leaders have already made employees redundant due to AI adoption, according to a 2025 Orgvue study. Coinbase, Block, and Cloudflare have all issued sweeping AI-connected layoffs. Arora simultaneously added 5,423 staff between fiscal 2025 and Q3 2026, clarifying the picture: AI is not eliminating all jobs, but it is eliminating jobs from people who cannot adapt on their own, without institutional support, on their employer's timeline. Workers who cannot self-teach in a technology their companies failed to train them on are classified as the weakest link in a process they never controlled.

AI-generated tracks have been prohibited from entering Australia's official music charts.

Tracks created with "assistance" from AI will still be eligible, though they will have to meet the criteria of being "substantially human-made" and "raise no stream or chart manipulation concerns" in order to be permitted.

In its statement, ARIA said that it would be judging eligibility based on the labelling programme introduced in the joint-proclamation on July 10 from global music industry heavyweights, such as the GRAMMYs and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
