I wasn't able to find a general photography thread, so I took the liberty of creating one. This is when we get off topic in other threads and we can discuss general photography here, be it questions or whatever, without needing to create more threads.

I dunno - having a thread for a specific topic kinda makes sense to me.
 
True. But sometimes we just have ad-hoc queries and I think it would be a waste to start new threads for them. It's up to you though. I really don't mind not having this thread.

Well, we derail just about every thread, so no harm done! :D
 
Ok so i didn't really want to start a new thread but my parents camera doesn't seem to be working anymore :( its a Canon A95. The camera switches on and everything works fine but the screen is just black . It sounds like the camera focuses and can take a photo but the photo comes out black. Does this mean it is the end of the camera's life?
 
can anyone suggest a good quality tripod. I dont really know the manufacturers or what to look out for when buying a tripod. I have a Canon 400D if that helps..
 
I've got a pretty crappy Vivatar that lives in the boot of my car - not the best but it was cheap and gets the job done. I'll need to invest in a decent one someday but there are higher priorities ATM.

the kids may be hungry but they're extremely well photographed - I'm sure she'll understand . . . .:D
 
do we have a thread in this forum for tutorials on various subjects? ie hdr how-to's, nifty tricks in photoshop etc... (i didnt even know what hdr was untill a week ago)

there is so much i have to learn about d-SLR photography not to mention the image processing side of things. i know my way around basic photoshop but learning more and about other imaging software wont hurt....

any links will do... thanx
 
Do you guys think I should wait until there are potential Xmas specials to buy the DSLR? Would there be any pricecuts? Just wondering whether I should order now or later...

I think it's likely to get more expensive. Stuff gets imported in USD, which got stronger.
