PS50C430 anyone know how to get latest firmware or if any is available?

Well went looking for the STR 500, Hifi didn't have, but then I went to Digital Experience and they have the 510 receiver on special, but then I couldn't find decently priced speakers. They have some Sonys on special, but no stock. Next best option was R7000 mission speakers.

Different branches?

Game?

Makro?

Phone around. :)

Yeah could have, but liking the idea of the STR510 receiver. :)

It does sound over HDMI which is quite nice.

3 less cables which you would never have seen in any case? For a total cost with speakers much more than the STR500?

Sure. You get what you pay for.

Are you on a budget or not?

Maximise that budget. No need to consider something less if you can afford more.

Not on a budget per say, but I need to exercise some self restraint.

I was considering the NAD and Mission combo @ Digital Exp for R9999, but I dunno if I really such an expensive setup.

Thats why I am considering the STR500 / 510.

Digital Ex are getting some Sony speakers next week that are on special, will come to around R5K with the receiver. Seems good to me.

Yes.

Otherwise that Yamaha amp for R3,000 + Jamo 5.1 speakers for R6,000 at Dion.

So has anyone with a PS50C450 tried to update their firmware yet over the standard one that it came with....?

Nope I haven't.

I tried with my LA40C530 a few weeks back and it wouldn't work.

You wanting to update yours?

Yeah I already downloaded the updated firmware just haven't installed it yet. It came out November last year.

Ah ok, let me know if your TV catches on fire during the install and I will refrain from doing mine :D :p

I updated one a couple of weeks ago - worked perfectly.

I had an issue where the TV would revert to the Dynamic picture settings after a couple of minutes.

Updated firmware fixed this

Didn't you say the only thing that makes a difference in the audio chain are speakers?

mmmm, remember that your amp is the power house to your system, cables are essential (about 10% of the value of your system) as well as speakers.

One of the most important things is accoustics. You can have the best system but if your accoustics suck - your system will sound terrible.

The comment was tongue in cheek toward him ;)

But our debate last time was the only thing that made any difference was the speakers to a system - assuming the specs are the same. In other words, a 15 year old Sansui rated at 100w RMS sounds identical to a brand new Meridian at 100w RMS.

I disagreed and stated everything in the path adds or subtracts ... sum of parts etc

Anyway - for another thread :)

Which is best please:

Samsung 26" LCD LA26C350

OR

Sony 26BX300 26" Black LCD TV- Bravia Engine 3

Sony, I'd think. Samsung 3 Series is not great. But then neither is the Sony BX300 series... Although Bravia Engine 3 makes me think it'll have the edge.

Go and see both for yourself. Remember to play the same media/source on each of them.
