Make sure they both play the same TV source/channel/movie/series when you test them. That's the only way to accurately tell which is better - by playing the same source on both and comparing.

It's very possible the Samsung is better though - they are the current leaders in terms of sales and it seems features - so do compare both objectively. :)

Will do! I saw the Samsung one being advertised last night during Idols for R2499 at some shop (cant remember the name) and the Sony for R2909 by shop 63. http://shop63.co.za/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=203 Dont know this place - will have to do research on them as well.
 
I read somewhere here on the forum that Samsung will be releasing new plasma t.v. line.
I'm in the market for a new t.v. so wanna make sure I don't regret buying now - does anyone have an idea when the new plasma's will be released and what new features are they bringing?

I was looking at the PS50C450 which is R7999 at cats. That's my budget. If the new t.v's will be way more expensive than that I won't have to wait for them.

Every year they release a new line - A, B, C and the next should be D.

I think they generally bring them out mid year ... I think

The guy from Samsung said late March to April. The new lineup seem to have some nice improvements and the sets have been completely re-made. Even some of the lower end models will have 3D capability if thats your thing. I've gone ahead and bought a PS50C450 and I'm very happy with it however when the new ones come out I'll be looking long and hard at them because one will be migrating to the bedroom hopefully :D

They will be more expensive.

And trust me, you cannot go wrong with the PS50C450. Get it!
 
I just bought a 42 inch plasma Samsung and I am very happy. They guy put an LCD and a plasma side by side and the plasma definitely appeared to have better image quality for it's size over the LCD. I don't know much about TVs though so that's about all I can say. Lol

Had my HD PVR installed today! Wooohoo!

Huge difference! Man those HD channels on a 50" plasma is amazing :D

I was absolutely BLOWN away with the HD channels. I can't believe the quality.

I sat for about half an hour watching a show on penguins :p
