General Plasma & LCD discussions

I can't agree with the statement you +1'ed. Plasma buzz should not be audible from 1m away. Who watches TV without any sound? It doesn't buzz when it's off. Next, you run no risk of burn-in on plasma, unless connected to a PC doing work repetitively where there are static images.

Not sure what the "looking out the window" comment means, but I wonder if they've seen the top range Panasonic Viera plasma. ;)

I was referring to the "window" analogy. To me, that refers to the fact that it's so thin and almost looks more like a portrait/window than a TV

Everything (incl. my brain) says plasma yet the little impulsive boy inside of me says get 55" LED at DW.
Sort of like choosing a corolla for 100k but looking at a merc for 200k just cos u getting a 50k discount.

LCD and plasma are on par in terms of thickness, I'm pretty sure.

My PS42C450's bezel is 2.6cm deep.

Yes LED edge-lit LCD is thinner. Makes little difference when you watch from the front. ;)

I actually think Plasma's are thinner.
My 40" S-series is fat - double the size of plasma - it something i was suprised at (but then my LCD is 2 yrs old).
Thats also one of the reasons i like it - cos its flippin difficult to carry me LCD around.

yup

yup, and also makes little difference if you've got walls/shelves/whatever on both sides. but if you've got the one side open, like I do, then may be a consideration :) basically, when walking into our flat and turning left into the lounge, you would look directly side-on to the TV.

Shut up you fanboi's, you're making my head hurt! :p

EDIT: And for what it's worth, gaming on my 50" plasma is awesome:love:

So ARE there any led "backlit" lcd screens on the market? I wanna know how it compares to led side-lit lcd screens.

Tough decision to make for me... planning to get the C450 this weekend. Not sure if I should go for the 42" or 50". Wall to wall distance measures approximately 3.3 meters. I guess I should have just about 2.8 - 3.0 meters once the couch is in place and the t.v. wall mounted. I'm worried I don't want to feel I should have gone bigger should I go for the 42" or feel the t.v. is just a 'little bit' big for the room should I select the 50".

42" or 50"?

I know I've asked quite a few times PP just making sure as the time is near :)

If you can afford the 50" then go for that... ;)

agreed. if you can afford the 50 get that. the resolution is better and well it 8 INCHES BIGGER :)

but on a side note i have noticed when i switch the tv on i got two dark black lines just below the two top corners and when the picture comes on if you look and focus on those spots you can see a change in colour and pixels.... not normal? normal?

Game has Samsung 40" FHD LCD LA40C530 for R4999.
I am still looking for a 50" FHD plasma (if anybody finds one).

They're all over Jo'burg? Loads of forumites here have been getting them up there? What about the PS50C450 special, where was it, Cats?

OK, I went to Canal Walk last night. AudioVision has the PS50C450 for R10,999, but no PS42C450. Game and HiFi corp have both got the PS42C430, but also no C450. I forget what the price was. So my last hope is Tafelberg; will phone them today.
Then, the sales rep at AV said something interesting. He said the reason there's the C430 and C431 is that the C430 has problems working with the HDPVR decoders... Apparently it either has video or audio but not both at the same time. So the C431 has updated software. PP, can you confirm this? Or can the software of the C430 be updated...?
Thanks!
