General Plasma & LCD discussions

Watching chiefs vs spurs on a 51D550 plasma and I notice a slight trail on the ball when kicked hard. Also on hand movements. Sabc1, sd pvr using AV cables.

Possibly the worse source ever - even via DSTV. And I'm using a CRT currently! :D

This freekick looked like a comet. Which dstv channels are good quality?

Still images look great though. Example when they focus on the crowd/coaches/players

Was watching CNN on 51D550 for a little while and now I see that I have some Image Retention of the CNN logo and news ticker at the bottom. My contrast and brightness are set quite low so I hope this isn't permanent.

What's cell light set to?

Isn't 14 the max? Would explain the IR.

FWIW, ad breaks act as "pixel refreshers". :p I watch every Protea cricket test match, no IR after each day.

Nope, 20 is max. I think it's gone now. Is IR visible when the TV is off too?

That is perfectly normal. You will always get IR on a plasma. It goes away and is seriously a non issue. Obviously don't leave it on the same channel for a whole week as then you may get burn in.

And yes you will see the IR even when the tv is off. In fact even the next morning you may very well still see it. Don't panic as soon as another feed is on it disappears almost immediately. That is the nature is plasma.

Beware the cbeebies logo. 2-3 hours of that everyday and I guarantee you screen burn.

Always think about the issues you had with ceebies when watching it but lucky haven't had any burn in.

I had a top of the line LG plasma, cant remember model, FHD 50".

My daughter, 3 at a time, a year ago, used to watch max 1 hour cbeebies every weeknight. Pixel shift and all other nonsense on, had permanent screen burn from the logo.

Watching footie, you had a nice blue cbeebies logo on the green lawn. Returned the TV to LG, and they said nothing can be done.

Binnned it after just over a year of use, tried all the screenwash stuff, nothing cleaned it off.

I don't understand why the manufacturers refuse to cover screen burn in the warranty. It doesn't give you much confidence in the product when you read that warning in the first page of the manual.

Also, which pixel shift settings would be the most effective? Currently using 4-4-1. 4 vertical, 4 horizontal every 1 minute. Would 1-1-1 be better?

At least there is a warning, I have had no ir or burn in that I can see on mine, perhaps tweak your settings

For the pixel shift mine is on 4-4-4

Maybe I'm exaggerating about my IR. I only notice it when I put a blank screen and look at it carefully from about 50cm and closer. Yes I'm just obsessive like that :)

Haha yeah I just want peace of mind. It's my damn Phone screen that's spoiling me. Waiting for the day I have a TV that's this clear. I dont even want to see the pixels!

Would it be wrong to go out and buy an LCD, hook it up and compare the tv's side by side in the comfort of my own home before returning it the next day? Just to make sure I made the right purchase. Peace of mind!

Do that and give it a try, after all its a crapload of money. I am quite surprised about the IR. Certain people on here keep on insisting that IR is not an issue with these Plasmas but that certainly does not seem to be the case, even if its just minor...

Isn't pixel shift irritating as well? On the one hand you want to get the best picture with no blur, ghosting and whatnot at the same time your whole picture has to shift every few minutes in order to avoid IR...

I don't notice the pixel shift when it happens.
