I had a top of the line LG plasma, cant remember model, FHD 50".

My daughter, 3 at a time, a year ago, used to watch max 1 hour cbeebies every weeknight. Pixel shift and all other nonsense on, had permanent screen burn from the logo.

Watching footie, you had a nice blue cbeebies logo on the green lawn. Returned the TV to LG, and they said nothing can be done.

Binnned it after just over a year of use, tried all the screenwash stuff, nothing cleaned it off.

There you go. I've done it to 2 Sammy plasmas. Only way to prevent it is to run the set at 50% brightness and contrast (or similar to movie mode settings)...

Maybe I'm exaggerating about my IR. I only notice it when I put a blank screen and look at it carefully from about 50cm and closer. Yes I'm just obsessive like that :)

Yes that is exaggerative. :)

IR is temporary, burn in is permanent. Very much doubt you have burn in.

Do that and give it a try, after all its a crapload of money. I am quite surprised about the IR. Certain people on here keep on insisting that IR is not an issue with these Plasmas but that certainly does not seem to be the case, even if its just minor...

Isn't pixel shift irritating as well? On the one hand you want to get the best picture with no blur, ghosting and whatnot at the same time your whole picture has to shift every few minutes in order to avoid IR...

You will get IR when running high cell light settings. This has been mentioned often. Best is to run cell light at around half, this allows you to run higher brightness and contrast settings. Screen has more than enough brightness this way. IIRC cell light on mine is about 60%, brightness about 70%, contrast about 80%. Never had any IR.

Pixel shift is unnoticeable.

I think before giving the guy a heart attack with bad information, rather let the plasma boys comment.

Moral of the story - don't use plasma for Cbeebies. :D

Keep the better tech for Daddy.

I do not see pixel shift at all

And mine is on movie mode permanently cz I keep my room nice and dark, but even when the lights are on it still looks good

I asked this in another thread but does anyone know how to save custom settings on a samsung? I dont want to overwrite the default settings.

Agreed, LCD is now in the lounge but it's small for the lounge and the plasma is huge for the bedroom, sitting 1.3m away from plasma in the room vs 3-4m away from LCD in lounge.. Eish... need minimum 51" for lounge. How much do 60" Sammy's go for? FHD LCD?

Then don't get a plasma because that is the nature of them. No matter what you will get IR. Burn in however is a whole different story and is very unlikely to occur.

My little one watches about 2 hours of ceebebies a day. IR yes, burn in no. Change the channel and within 5 minutes it's gone.

Got the Samsung 51"p550(Plasma) yesterday not impressed with the quality of the image tho. Had a LCD, LG Scarlet 42" before both of these tv's are full HD. The colours do look more natural but the LG seems like it had much more detail. Especially in the blacks compared to the plasma. Going to wait a few days before i make my final decision.

What settings have you adjusted? Perhaps you need to copy another owner's settings.

Too grainy?

Sounds more like a contrast issue. Like when I increase dynamic contrast on my LCD, the blacks become darker but they lose all detail.

Can't remember if my plasma has a dynamic contrast setting. I do run it at about 80% contrast on normal mode. Not sure if that will help.
