Guys, its day 4 of owning the PS51D550 and I am a little concerned about the buzzing. I sit about 2m away from the tv in a 4x4m room and I can hear the high pitched buzz when I switch the tv on (similar to a fluorescent light array in the office). Is this normal or should I return the set? I love this tv but it feels like my ears are tuned into the buzz now so its starting to annoy me.

I don't hear much of a buzz on mine. If it really bothers you then return it.

Excessive buzz sets do get swapped out.

Thing is, it's such a schlep to pack up the set and take it back. I feel like I'm being to picky and I can't really hear the buzz when I'm watching content on it. It's just weird that when I put it on or there are quiet scenes that I can hear the buzz.

Also, what constitutes excessive buzz?

Dude get peice of mind, take an hour out of your weekend, pack it up and go swap it out.

I think the room acoustics make a big difference to how much the plasma buzz is heard... If you have carpets and curtains, it'll be less noticeable.

Every plasma I have listened to has a buzz (in shops)... and I noticed the buzz on our 51D550 during quiet scenes very easily. It didn't bother me too much, because there aren't many silent movies scenes in general... but for occasional use as a PC monitor, it was very distracting.

I cant hear much of a buzz on mine. I have to actually go behind it to hear anything at all.

Perhaps you should take it back...

I've decided to take it back. If they say its normal then I'll just have to live with it, just like I live with the buzz of the fluorescent lights in the office.

Took it back and got a replacement, same thing. I'll just have to live with it. Plus, the total awesomeNess of this tv makes up for it.

Could be that you are more sensitive to certain sounds than others?

I guess I am. Everyone that I asked to listen for the buzz didn't hear it till I pointed it out...

The buzz from my plasma in 07 was bad but the further away I got it was quieter. My old Sinotec eventually developed a buzz so lcds get it too.

I need some help again please. My TV doesn't keep picture settings. It's the weirdest thing, when the TV is turned on it automatically goes to the dynamic picture mode with cell light turned up all the way to 20. I usually change it to Standard with some custom settings but after a while it just reverts back to Dynamic mode. I thought it was one of the advanced settings but I turned all that stuff off. HOw do I fix this?

Is it still set on "store" mode?

When I set it up initially I chose home use, so I don't think so. However, if it was in store mode, how would I check it?

Found the problem, tv was in store demo mode. Fixed it.

Samsung TVs use one of 3 processing engines. DNIe+, HyperReal and 3D Hyperreal. As stated on Samsung.com.

The 3D Hyperreal engine is Samsung's best processing engine and is in all Samsung 3D TVs including the PS51D550. The B6000 has the less powerful Hyperreal engine. No brainer. 3D TVs need a much more powerful engine than 2D TVs.

This makes sense because you can mcgyver the D550 firmware to think it is a D7000 and this unlocks the features of the D7000 like Real Black Filter, 10pt Calibration.

With the settings unlocked you have the SAME dark blacks as the D7000. I spent hours reading on AVS Forum and others and I'm not about to spend ages looking for threads to prove a point. But look around and you'll see.

Can anything be done with the PS51D490 as it's also 3D?

Samsung owners - particularly Series 4 - can anyone please tell me how to turn on subtitles? In previous models there is reference in some web posts to the CC button but there's no such thing on my remote..
TIA.

D3x! - if you are confused about my post, don't hassles turns out the srt file was wrongly named so it now works.
