Hey guys,

I have been wanting to get a battery grip for my 450D to make portrait shots more comfortable. So I was wondering if any of you have any experience with the generic ones?

And maybe a good place to buy one?

Thanks
Sam

Hey Sam,

I have only used generic grips for my old 350D (Targus) and current 50D (Phottix BP-40D). Neither have either let me down. I would definitely look for Phottix and Zeikos grips. They can be found for about R500-900 depending on where you shop. Camerastuff.co.za sells them and I have bought from them before and received very good service.

Yeah I also bought a Phottix for my 60D and it's great. Just couldn't justify the Canon which is at least twice as much.

I have the Phottix for my D90 & D7000, work like the real thing at less than half the price. Good build and grip too.

The only negative about a grip is that sometimes it makes fitting the body in a bag a bit cumbersome.

I bought a generic Zeikos grip for my NikonD90. The Nikon-brand was almost twice the price - I paid R400 for mine.
I've never regretted it. It works great, and on top of that it came with one of those removable 6-AA-Battery trays that allow you to use normal batteries in your camera.

Once you get a grip you'll wonder how you ever took photos without one :) I got mine direct from the shop of a seller on BoB from whom I had bought all my other gear.
