"Generic Host Error Message" since using Huawei E220

OK... just to bring you all up to speed. I cannot even remember how many things I have tried since my last posting but I have some good news. The generic host error kept on and on and eventually I took a look at the CD the guy from Vodacom had given me and there was another program on there for the E620 card. What did I have to loose?
I cleared my machine of the installation which the modem loads on the first connect and then installed the E620 software. I think it's called Mobile Connect.
When the installation was done all I did was click on the Desktop icon that was there and bingo!!!!!
This thing connected immediatly.
Scared to death that something would go wrong I opened my browser and surfed for about an hour. NOTHING WENT WRONG!!!!
OK... so now I disconnected and powered down, rebooted and a message popped up asking whether I would like to install the firmware version resident on the modem and I declined. ( I suppose it will always ask because the one program is resident on the modem and I would not know how to take it off).
I then clicked the Icon for the e620 software and the dashboard popped up, I clicked connect and it was immediate.
It has been 3 days now and about 20 attempts and it works everytime.
I don't want to tempt the devil but it sure works up to now.

had similar problems a while a ago.

eventually after much googling I found a little program called "winsockxpfix.exe"

downloaded and ran. all problems to an end.

In my case the problem was not related to a spesific service provider and or modem/handset.

used both MTN and VC on both e220 and SE p990i.

Try creating a direct connection, not using the software.
Rather easy to setup. That's what I do. Maybe also just wait for ginggs he's the software fundy

Could you provide some details of the error message please?
A screenshot of the error message posted to the Photos section would be great.

It probably is just a software problem, but if does turn out that the modem is faulty, MTN have a two year warranty on their hardware, so they will replace it.

we played for like 30min sometimes 2 hours then we got the message
and dc.Sometimes even after 2 min he left and i tried everything system restore and changed setings back nothing worked note i am runing xp fresh istall with nothing on it but windows xp service pack 2 and all my drivers.Never had problems before this weekend. So i think i should format reinstall windows maybe it should do the trick.

I'm sure that's your problem, you don't have the latest windows security updates installed so while you are on the internet your computer is being hit by computers trying to infect your PC. Go and do a Windows Update and install all the critical updates.
Please do the screenshot first though! ;)

I think that maybe it cause i had no problems before i shared my connectoin with my budie
this weekend and i had no updates heard the the updates are like 2gig.
I think me changing setings messed something up but system restore should have fixed it.My IT budie told me the samething as you did it could be because i have no updates but i played wow for 2 months no updates and everything was fine till i shared my connectoin this weekend. Then i got this Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error" at Random times.
Thats why i thougth my modem faulty.

Ok i tried the winfix metoined above even tried the windows updates still geting generic host error, does not make sense
only thing left is to format harddrive and reinstall windows it worked on my pc for 2 moths no problems no updates or anything of the kind and if formating doesnt work it can ONLY be hardware related. Then i just hope MTN replace my e220. thanx for all the info on this but i tried it all.
Maybe i got one of dose e220 they made just before the long weekend.

I don't think they have long weekends in china.:)

Lol funny dude i see this thing is made in china but we cant blame the chins today at least not yet i formated and reinstalled windows and wow and did not get the error again so far only been on for about 2 hours hope it stays this way downloading wow patches and playing wow for an hour
nothing yet looks like its the ONLY way to get rid of that error.

I think i should blame my budie hes a network administrator he visited me for the weekend i shared my internet connectoin with him to show him wow now hes a addict too now :D bougth a copy but hes pc is a mess it crashes once i connect the modem to it cause he said my pc is causing the error.I think his gprs selfone software messed with my e220 software or
it could be the setting he change cause the guy didnt now what he was doing had t phone a nother budie of mine in the IT industrie to help me with.

Lets hope it stays this way :D
Formating has worked so many times but its a pain in the........
I am in boksburg next to a mtn tower so i cant blame the signal lol that fake tree thing...

E220 Generic Host Error The Cause.

Comes down to your ports being attacked as soon as you disable firewall
i got it just after i shared my connection with somone and disabled firewall
formating and reinstalling windows work but its very painful. There is a small program 50kb big fixed the problem 100% ill give you guys the deatails when i get home.:D

If you had installed your Windows security updates as previously suggested, you would not have got the error when you disabled the firewall.

If you connect to the internet with a fresh install of just about any Microsoft operating system chances are good that within a few minutes your computer will be infected by a worm. Now, as clever as the writers of these worms are, the worms themselves sometimes contain bugs that end up crashing the service they are trying to exploit.

There are many processes that run under "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" (SVCHOST.EXE), so there are many possible causes for it crashing, however the Blaster Worm and its variants are very often the culprits.

A firewall or router may protect some of the vulnerable ports, but the real solution is to install the Microsoft security updates.

Windows updates are big alot of cap down the drain rather uses u 50kb program that blocks these ports. will post link and name when i get home.
And i did download the updates still had to reinstall if you get the error i dont think there is a way to repair it without this small program.Got the info from nag forums it works.
