Hi guys

I have a very irritating problem with my usb modem (I've bought 9 days ago). every time I start my internet connection after about 15-20 min I receive a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error"

I have formatted my PC twice now and installed windows XP pro with service pack 2. All my anti virus software is up to date. All my Spyware software is up to date I have tried the following

Microsoft's fix for this problem on their site.
I have installed and ran Winsock repair

I am now disparate I even contacted MTN to exchange my modem.
Can anyone please help me to resolve this problem

please email me [email protected]

Thanks
Louwtjie

Hi

The main problem with this is, that it automatically disconnects my internet connection and the icon on the bottom right taskbar that shows you are connected stays there. If I disconnect with the fastlink software the icon still stays there and I cannot connect again unless I restart my PC.

The other thing is when I restrt sometimes the PC freezes yust after the Motherboard splashscreen and when I diconnect the modem from the USB port The PC suddenly starts booting again ???

I am going to pull my hair out !!!

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP

I have the same problem when using my bluetooth modem. It seems to be fine on my usb. My solution has been to get the HSDPA USB Modem. It works without hassles.

NOPE, i dont have any automatic updates on my pc or laptop. I update my virus protection etc manually when i have the spare bandwidth.

The error happens on both bluetooth and usb connections.

I had the exact same error on my PC with a Microcom DSL router. However the Microsoft patch fixed it for me...perhaps try the patch again. Im convinced that should have fixed it. :/

BTW the problem seemed to kick in after I had changed router to bridged mode and started dialing in my connections instead of using plain old pppoe automatic connect on the router. Just thought to add that bit of info as obviously you dial-in with the modem.

Just got the same error... happened on my E620 while posting here... any sollution as yet?

Make sure you download the right fix. If it doesn't help then EISH!!! :)

FYI--Might be that security update causing it :/

This only started today. I updated my e620s software yesterday.

It seems to be fine now after I rolled back my system to the 16th.

MTN software

It seems like the problem on my pc is due to the Fastlink software that is pre loaded on the modem when i connect without the software on the modem the problem do not occur but as soon as I log on to the net using the MTN fastlink program the error pops up again.

Is their any way to see on a daily basis how much cap did you use or how much is left before you start using out of bundle data ??

Cheers

I spoke to the guys and now they change their tune, they advise the windows updates now instead, give em a try please.

Louwtjie the only way I know is to put that sim in a phone and check, unless my knowledge is dated in this regard guys(??)

I set my antivirus in debug mode that allows me to see and select what is allowed to run while I am online. Earlier when it asked me about opening shell32 I allowed it and immediatliy got the error. I restarted and connected when it asked to allow shell32 I denied it and so didnt get the error.

I am running windows update now. I am on a Mecer A550 running XP SP2 so I think my SP2 is something wrong with. Will post when update is done.

Shell32

OK what is this shell32 and how do you stop this from running while you are connected ??

Mavchat what AV software do you use? Im Using AVG at the moment, is it any good or do you recommend other AV software

I use Avast. Its free for personal use. You can set it to ask permission to load files but you must know what you are doing as disallowing certain files can make your system unstable.

I also suggest you update your windows as I haven't for a while and since I have started updating it seems to be fine.
