Genetically modified pig heart transplanted into human

Andhere I came in thinking they transplanted a GM cops heart into another guy.

Oh well.

Is PETA still a thing? Those are a bunch of nutjobs... I'd imagine they will very willingly take a pig heart if it is their last hope.

Now serving GMO Pig hearts...

But religion? Isn't that going to be a problem? and how long is this going to last?

edit:
Can I have the heart of a tiger
Was wondering about this. Raises some serious ethical issue.

So a muslim guy with a heart condition, his only option for survival is a pig heart.

The scholars will have to come together and issue a fatwa or something.

In the Qur'an pork is allowed if there's no option to save a life so will be permitted on a medical basis to save a life.

The issue will be personal - with the recipient having to live with a "pig in his heart" so will be permanently impure and might be subject to ridicule and scrutiny.

Muslims folk commit many sins but when it comes to bacon/pork it's non negotiable absolutely no go.

As long as it is there choice, does it matter? They need to either live or die with the decision.

I hope he enjoyed his extra two months as a 'guinea pig':
He had already been bedridden for six weeks leading up to the surgery, attached to a machine which was keeping him alive.

Mr Bennett underwent the surgery on 7 January, and doctors say in the weeks afterwards he spent time with his family, watched the Super Bowl and spoke about wanting to get home to his dog, Lucky.

they do it, nothing surprising about that,
sickening sure, but yes they kill to order and stick those organs in people quite openly.
They execute the so called criminal depending on the required body part. A shot to the head if they need the heart etc. A shot to the heart, if they want to harvest the cataracts etc.

Well given he was probably not going to survive much longer pre-op,he got some time extra from it,and the lack of rejection was a quite novel pilot of the technology

Jinxed it! @Creag caused croak!
My wife works in the heart transplant world of medicine and deals with transplant patients and their families daily. We need success stories for this :( So, to an extent, I understand the heartbreak here, especially for the family.
