Have you read these? My look through picks that overall better policing (data, pay, accountability, etc),will surely result in lower crime rates (ALL) and some data is there to show that. But fewer percentages of black people committing them; I do not see it there. No racial data on whether police apologies, racial bias awareness or avoiding violent situations (sic) will help the demographics.

I am not disputing the demographically unbalanced stats or that some police behave badly and need better training. But I feel there is also a societal issue, maybe around violence (scary what was seen in the "protests") that contributes. But that is just me - let us see how this thing plays out.

Pennsylvania police officer fired for 'racist and derogatory' email about Black people, journalists and politicians

Sgt. Jeff Annunziata, in an email to Mayor Joe Schember and Erie Times-News reporters, criticized the Black community, protesters and journalists.

A longtime Pennsylvania police officer was fired Thursday after sending a "racist and derogatory" email to the mayor and local news reporters.

Erie Mayor Joe Schember announced the firing of 62-year-old Sgt. Jeff Annunziata at a press conference, alongside Police Chief Dan Spizarny. In his email, Annunziata said Black people seeking social justice “cannot take care of their own or anyone else without playing the race card.” He also defended his profession and criticized journalists.

“Sgt. Jeff Annunziata sent an email to members of the media containing racist and derogatory statements,” Schember said. “I condemn these statements. I am appalled and disgusted by the racial insensitivity of this email.”

The Erie Times-News of the USA TODAY Network first reported the contents of Annunziata's email about six hours before Schember’s announcement.

Spizarny said he immediately suspended Annunziata after an internal affairs investigation found he had sent the email from his city account and identified himself as a police officer.

“I speak for the command staff when I say that we are all sickened by the language of Mr. Annunziata,” Spizarny said.

The city’s solicitor, Ed Betza, said Annunziata was not working when he sent the email, adding the union representing city police, Erie Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 7, has 10 days to challenge Annunziata’s termination.

“It’s their legal right to do so,” Betza said.

Annunziata, the chief traffic investigator for Erie police and a 34-year veteran of the police bureau, earned an annual base pay of $103,631, according to city records.

He sent his email shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, the same day Schember had announced that another Erie police officer who kicked a seated protester would receive three days unpaid suspension and be required to undergo sensitivity training.

In his email, Annunziata also claimed that citizens “do not understand compliance;” asserted that most police officers try to avoid confrontation; suggested without evidence that the Clinton Foundation and billionaire George Soros are funding Black Lives Matter and antifa; and mentioned that Erie officer Richard Burchick was shot and killed in 1991 by a Black man.

What exactly was racist about that police officers post? I still can't figure it out to be honest.

One of the Louisville Metro Police officers who killed Breonna Taylor is being fired, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said Friday. It has been more than three months since police shot and killed the 26-year-old Black woman after entering her home through a “no-knock” warrant during an investigation that was unrelated to her.
The police chief “is initiating termination procedures against Officer Brett Hankison,” Fischer announced.

“Unfortunately, due to a provision in state law that I would very much like to see changed, both the chief and I are precluded from talking about what brought us to this moment or even the timing of this decision,” Fischer said.
Hankison and the two other officers involved in Taylor’s death had been on administrative leave since March, pending an investigation into the shooting. More than three months after the incident, none of them have been arrested or charged.
Police Chief Robert Schroeder sent Hankison a letter Friday, according to local media, in which he informed the officer of “my current intention to terminate your employment with the Louisville Metro Police Department,” citing a review of the investigation.


In the letter, Schroeder said Hankison “wantonly and blindly” fired 10 rounds of bullets into Taylor’s apartment, which “displayed an extreme indifference to the value of human life.” Schroeder said there was no “immediate threat” to justify such use of deadly force.
“I find your conduct a shock to the conscience. I am alarmed and stunned you used deadly force in this fashion,” Schroeder wrote. “The result of your actions seriously impedes the Department’s goal of providing the citizens of our city with the most professional law enforcement agency possible. I cannot tolerate this type of conduct by any member of the Louisville Metro Police Department. Your conduct demands your termination.”
The police department has also been investigating multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault involving Hankison. Several women have accused him of preying on them at bars under the guise of “driving them home safely.”

Taylor’s death — along with several other recent incidents of police brutality against Black people, including a white Minneapolis police officer killing George Floyd by kneeling on his neck — have sparked massive protests and reckonings around the country in recent weeks.
