It's a national problem, those officials don't all get elected at the same time...

That's the point, it's trying to put the problem front and centre so that people don't just accept the status quo anymore.... they are trying to make the issue hard to ignore. If people don't want to get upset by things like this they have two options, they can bitch about people drawing attention to certain realities that still exist in America or they can try and make sure that there is a positive change in moving towards resolving them.

You can make an argument that there might be more effective ways of protesting, would like to see some suggestions on how to do that with a similar audience...
