George Floyd death

Yesterday afternoon, one of the homeless committed a very public suicide by hanging himself from a tree on a busy road.

Let's see how this plays out.
If you actually care about this unfortunate person's death, rather than using their death to try to prove a very dubious point, why do you not do something about it?

Speak to the police. Speak to your neighbourhood watch. Speak to your local charities. Hell, you could even be an armchair activist and start a thread on MyBB.

So while this is all going on - back at home CoCT law enforcement have been busy confiscating the meagre possessions of some of the homeless in my area - blankets etc at the onset of winter.

You seem legitimately troubled by police abuses at home, but not in the US?

I don't know whether it has been posted, but The Guardian and Bellingcat are maintaining this list, a list detailing journalists being attacked by policing authorities.

It does, however, not include any 'disputes' between journalists and protesters and or opportunists, but that is not the purpose of the list. I am saying this due to the high probability of the list being criticised of said exclusion.

Former White House chief of Staff John Kelly: 'I agree' with Jim Mattis on Trump

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly said Friday he agrees with former Secretary of Defense Gen. Jim Mattis' stark warning this week that President Donald Trump is "the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people" as nationwide protests have intensified over the death of George Floyd.
"I agree with him," Kelly told Anthony Scaramucci, former White House communications director, during a live-streamed interview.

"There is a concern, I think an awful big concern, that the partisanship has gotten out of hand, the tribal thing has gotten out of hand," Kelly said. "He's quite a man, Jim Mattis, and for him to do that tells you where he is relative to the concern he has for our country."

Kelly's comments come after Mattis, who has widespread support among Senate Republicans for his long military service to the country, contended this week that Trump "does not even pretend to try" to unite the country and is instead engaged in a "deliberate effort" to divide the country, while lacking "mature leadership."

The pointed remarks from two of Trump's former top officials follow more than a week of nationwide protests across the country calling for justice for Floyd, a black man who was killed last week by a white police officer in Minneapolis.

I'm always more concerned about my own people than those in a foreign land.
I live in a country plagued by corruption, shortage of electricity supply and shortage of water. Unemployment is rife and swathes of the population live without as much as running water and ablution facilities.

So what may happen in the USA may be troubling, it pales in comparison to what our own people go through on a daily basis.

So I guess, simply put, my concerns and priorities are:
Family and friends.
Neighborhood.
City.
Country.
Continent.

And then maybe other countries.

Glad to hear you're on the side of the people protesting police violence in the US

Trump visits Maine: Protests will greet him, GOP Sen. Susan Collins won't
The state's Democratic gov has told the president to watch his words while he's in her state.

President Donald Trump will visit Maine on Friday afternoon to speak with fishermen and tour a plant that’s manufacturing coronavirus testing supplies even as the state's top Democrats have suggested he's not welcome.

Trump is scheduled to hold a roundtable in Bangor on supporting America's commercial fishermen and then will visit Guilford, where he'll tour and deliver remarks at Puritan Medical Products, which is producing nasal swabs for COVID-19 testing.

Gov. Janet Mills, a Democrat, told Trump during a conference call with governors earlier this week that she was "very concerned" that the president’s presence in her state "may cause security problems."

"I again ask the President to check his inflammatory rhetoric at the door and abandon the divisive language that sows seeds of distrust among our people," Mills in a statement Thursday. "I hope he will heed this call and appeal to the best in all people and lead us with courage and compassion through this difficult time."

Demonstrators have said they plan to be in Bangor where Trump will arrive, the Associated Press reported.

"It’s not the right time for him to be coming to our state," Marie Follayttar, director of Mainers for Accountable Leadership, which is helping organize the demonstration, told the AP.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican facing a difficult reelection race, will not be joining Trump.

"Senator Collins will be in Washington Friday and has several federal, and non-federal, events on her schedule," Collins spokeswoman Annie Clark told NBC News. "She actually just visited Puritan Medical Products in just last month and she is proud of the work they are doing to combat COVID-19."

This comes as Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, a moderate Republican with a similar voting record as Collins, slammed Trump Thursday and said she’s "struggling" whether to back the president's reelection in November.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Joe Biden, the apparent 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, said in a statement on Trump's Maine visit Friday, "No amount of campaign-style excursions can change the fact that Donald Trump has been completely absent during this crisis.

“What is not being told is the violent criminal history of George Floyd. The media will not air this,” police union president Bob Kroll told his members in a letter posted Monday on Twitter.

If the attachment is accurate I suspect that not many pregnant black women will be joining in the riots.George Floyd History.jpg
