Hi all

So a few of my friends have been going on for years about their George Foreman grills. I know in their case it is not because it cooks exceptionally well, but mainly out of ease and simplicity for 1 or 2 young people, and it gives the ability to eat healthier for instance by cooking veg with meat on one device that channels the fat away, is quick to clean up, fewer take-outs, etc. :D

As much as I am sceptical about TV products, I decided to get the newer Grill and Griddle version, on the advice of a mate in the UK. R799 - quite pricey considering it's about 40 quid on Amazon at the moment.

I had a look at it at Makro. Build quality is pretty good and the non stick finishing on the grill/griddle is good. Only some of the finishings are a bit plasticy, but this wouldn't affect the outcome of the food.

Anyone got one? Please share tips/advice.

I am good at cooking meat, but how long should some WW thick-ish chicken breasts go for? :)

Thanks!

Had one years ago. Threw it in the bin when I got the Rouelle cooker

Wait you're not a vegetarian

I have the grill and the pamphlet ( instructions ) that came with it about cooking times is pretty accurate ..only times i have cocked up with it is when i guess the time to grill and not have a look at the instructions and over cook the meat . really a magic piece of kit for the kitchen cooks steak and all meat beautifully and very quick because it cooks from top and bottom

Do you use it to grill any bony meat?

Dry and tasteless and tough is 3 terms I associate with George Foreman grills. And not really healthy either, cooks foods in its own saturated fat so its about 4% less fat retained in the meat than putting it on a regular griddle.
Anyway what do I know, just my 7th day as a Vegetarian today.

Why would you want to channel all the flavour out of the meat?

I don't need that flavour as I use spices/marinade to add flavour.

I need a practical solution for cooking healthy food, and the GFGG is it.

And my mind is better off seeing what I'm not putting in my body. ;)

But that's the best flavour. You can turn any meat into a healthy piece of meat by trimming off all the visible fat.

You can eat anything and still be healthy, with moderation, exercise and a balanced diet.

Crap, now i sound like those infomercials that i loathe so much.

I don't disagree with you. ;)

We have the original George. Have had it for years now. Use it for grill meat and sausages, toasted sandwiches, etc. We use it often.

Yeah, my ex had one so I'm not just saying stuff. I found the meat to be tough and dry cos most of the "goodness" ended up in that little grey tray.

Your body does need some fat. ;)

That is exactly what happens when you over cook the meat :D

We have the old original one and it gets used a lot. We need to replace ours now though as the non stick coating is not really working any more haha. Want to get another one but the new ones aren't as good as the old ones, they are smaller and dont have temperature settings? Also feels very cheaply made compared to ours.
