German energy giants pull plug on conventional power

While I'm a great fan of Solar, the problem remains storage, as the peak generation doesn't always match peak demand.

That's where Hydro comes into it's own, storing energy for peak demand.

Frankly as a planet we need to get Solar panels into orbit where they can do the most good, and find some way of transmitting the energy back to earth.

Maybe with globalisation and a perfect world agreement and peace treaties. You see how countries are fighting for oil *cough US cough*. Having energy beamed down to earth by these energy satellites are an international treaty nightmare.

I like Germany for this reason. That is very efficient of them in the long run. Also there are some wind turbines going up between Jbay and Humansdorp. Also some near Queenstown in the near future and I think Coega outside of PE might be seeing more. Very elegant looking things.

I pass these every time I cross the bridge to Denmark (and back):



There are also wind turbines in most municipalities here.

It's a great feeling sitting in a train or a car and passing right by a few of these.

We also pick our power provider here. We pay the local company for the use of the grid and then we pay the company of our choice for the electricity. So our money goes straight into the pockets of renewable energy providers.

That will never happen here , eventually every one that can afford solar power will be on solar power for the simple reason that ESCOM will be to expensive .
Some one has to pay for the electricity that is stolen all the time and Escom that is mismanaged so we eventually will not be able to afford conventional electricity.
Just a matter of time.

I agree.
Once solar PV and batteries become competitive compared to Eskom's tariffs, people will go off grid in droves and the only ones left to pay for Eskom's infrastructure will be the thieves/freeloaders and business/industry.
That will be very bad news for business' who haven't converted to solar or alternative energy sources.
