Get ready for 10-hour blackouts

Energy experts are warning South Africans that they should prepare themselves for the worse, with regular stage 6 load-shedding and 10-hour daily blackouts.

In December, Eskom implemented stage 6 load-shedding for the first time – which means the power utility needed to shed approximately 6,000MW.
 
The headline writer needs a grammar lesson. We all know what the intention was, but it is rather misleading (Stage 6 is up to 10 hours per day). The scenario of 10 hour long continuous blackouts would be an entirely different story.

Similar to a thread earlier in the week and this was pointed out by @Genisys . Please MyBB, don't go the way of other journalism outlets.
 
I expect better of mybb... This headlines seems to have been a copy and paste from an iol story... And we all know how great Iqqypoos little journalist outfits are these days.

Interesting point. At least rotational load shedding spreads the burden, both in time-periods and by geographical location. It allows some degree of flexibility to plan, move and do things.

By contrast 10 hour long power outages over a large area during the working day would mean paralysis. Those relying on battery backups would fail sooner, or cost more to install.

I feel sorry for areas that have 4.5 hour long timetables. In CoCT the 2.5 hour schedule is complex and repetitive, but fairly equitable.

Ever since the decision was made to put out X articles per day the site has deteriorated. There's almost never anything technical and when there is it either relates to some political agenda (usually fear mongering) or is spam disguised as an article.

The irony is since the "trusted in tech" slogan came about I've been finding myself trusting them less and less.

Yes perhaps charging up batteries and reheating geysers.

During Stage 6 we had power off for 4.5 hours. Restoration issues for 12 hours. Power on for 2 hours. Power off for 4.5 hours. Restoration issues for 6 hours.

Good times.

Hopefully in 3.5 months this will all be over.

imho, 4.5 hours plus is what's blowing up substations.
