Frequent power cuts lead to increased demand when the power returns as users try to make up for backlogs and recharge their own backup systems. That increases the stress on the distribution transformers and leads to premature failures.

Authorities now agree that careless sampling and testing technique has been the source of 99 percent of “bad “dielectric readings

Regular sampling and testing of insulation oil taken from transformers is a valuable technique in a preventative maintenance program. If a proactive approach is adopted based on the condition of the transformer oil, the life of the transformer can be extended.

Often after load shedding in our area city power has to come fix issues.

Interesting link. I know CoCT do oil analysis. Like motor vehicles, it gives warning of premature failure.

Shorter but more frequent periods of rotational load shedding definitely put less stress on the distribution system. The effects of 10 hour long periods would effectively cripple the system, and become counter productive.

Was thinking this and not getting the details from the article. Heck we don't even have a schedule for more than 3 hours at a time or 6 hours a day and haven't had load shedding since it started in December.

Edit: you can add to that a disproportionate increase in personal income tax, the fuel levy and fuel price, etolls, property rates, electricity and water prices.

Hermanus is super chilled and everything just works. If you do remote work like me it's fukking fantastic living. Doubt I could find better anywhere in the world.

Number plate is CEM, cause we are all high on chemicals, so we drive nice and slow.

As long as you're satisfied, hopefully with some backup options, then go for it. But I think, for me, it's time to get the hell out of Dodge.

Honestly you probably aren't wrong with the remote working thing...I have contemplated Plett over the last few months, its largely the property price aspect that puts the brakes on the idea...

Saved at least R1m moving here than buying in a Cape Town suburb and got more for the same money.
