Vodacom and MultiChoice have signed a deal allowing the cellular provider to sell consumers a DStv bouquet which costs only R 139-00.
Consumers will have a choice between ‘DStv Select including M-Net Series & Hallmark’ and ‘DStv Select including kykNET’. This move will place MultiChoice in a more advantageous position when competition is introduced to the industry. One of the big entrants, Telkom Media, has already stated that they are aiming to introduce pay-TV to a wider audience which is bound to eat into DStv’s market share.
Vodacom’s extensive retail chain will be of great benefit to MultiChoice whilst simultaneously benefiting the cellular giant by allowing them to explore other revenue streams. It looks like a win-win situation for both parties but for Telkom Media and other paid-TV licensed applicants this partnership is not great news.
