I'm currently wating for Telkom to come and install a line at my house. The earliest expected date thus far is the 30th of November so I'm currently looking for some form of connectivity to use for the time being.

I do not want to enter into a contract commiting me to a provider. As soon as my line is installed I will stop using the interim service.

What I need to know is, what would be the most cost effective and easy way to get 3G or HSDPA for my home computer. Should I just go out and buy a 3G enabled mobile phone and use a bundle? or are there other options? If I now have to go and get a phone which would be the best option considering I can upgrade my current phone in january anyway?

I currently have a Sony Ericson s700i which refuses to allow my pc initiate any connections. I've tried using bluetooth as well as usb and updating and installing all the required software but I can't even get a GPRS connection going.

Are you sure you have 3g coverage ?

What error messages do you get ?

According to the coverage map I do yes, will need to test it however.

Can't recall the exact error message. What happens though is that I can initiate the connection, the phone dials in and the just disconnects again as soon as the connection is establised. I think the error message is that a PPP link could not be established.

mmm you could apply for a monthly contract at cellc and when u finnished I think you can give the card back?

What extra settings do you have in your for you modem, there is an extra string you need to put in ?

I personally think its the phone. I've tried using my fiancè's phone and that was able to connect first time without a problem. I unfortunately can't keep het phone with me...
