Getting a dog, any advice?

Get an Africanis. Not sure if they're great with kids. But they're tanks in terms of what they eat and survival. They make good neighborhood dogs too being afraid of nothing.
 
Wire Fox Terriers is another option that's good with kids. Not fully hypoallergenic but fine for most people with allergy issues due to low shedding.

Lol yeah that's why I said tanks in what they eat. They'll eat anything. There's a vagrant in my area he has one. The thing looks fresh and clean when the guy looks dirty etc. His is temperant though so would probly bite off a kid's face. But shows they are hardy AF.

They are protective of their owners, so if a strange kid it may be a different story. Ours is a mixed breed, like a proper junk yard dog, Africanis, Boerbol and whatever. Family he's okay with, strangers stay at the gate he will keep you there.

The owner makes 50% of the dog. If you know what you are doing (like my wife, not me) you can have the most friendly and amazing chihuahuas as opposed to those terrors grandmothers raise.

Be firm, stick to routine, you are the boss and just because the dog is physically small doesn't mean it needs to be treated like a puppy, carried around everywhere, sleep on the bed etc.

Feed them high quality food (Royal Canin for example [/queue the opinions...don't care]), stick the portions, don't feed them your left overs and make sure you take them to the vet for their checkups once a year and you'll have a healthy dog.

We've never needed pet insurance - it's a money pit imo.

EDIT: don't get chihuahuas, that's not what I meant
 
GSD if you can get a pup. Unbelievably protective, an absolute wonder as an indoor dog and superb with kids. Might not work with your allergies.

Does need to be kept amused though.

your kid will never feel unsafe.

This kid is doing a lot of things that you should not do with a dog, but he is very tolerant of it, even as a 7 month old puppy.

just be prepared for a lot of food and a lot of poop.

This, we have a 4 month old girl. They are amazing. Great personality and loving.

Also they are hypoallergenic.

So you guys can't take care of one kid and think a second one will solve the issue?

Had one when I was a kid and remember riding on it and jumping on it and it was always chilled. I only have fond memories of it.

Xolo best dog I ever had ,difficult to find though ,or Rizla ,both will keep kiddo very busy,nothing with a long spine as diets are critical and weight control
