I am getting a laptop from the US (a friend's dad is picking it up for me), and I am torn between the following 2 from amazon. I prefer big screens, the bigger the better, and I will be using it for CAD etc, so a goodish gfx card is nice.

Should I go for the 1000 dollar Sony 17,3 inch laptop or the 900 dollar 15,6 inch asus ?

I cant get any laptop with a delivery time of over a few days, as the friend's dad is only staying in the US for a few days :(

They are pretty much identical, but the Asus is 15.6 inches vs 17.3 inches, and it has an Nvidia GT 635M 2G gfx vs the sony having an AMD Radeon HD 7650M gfx card.

I would much prefer having the larger screen, but gfx card wise is it worth paying about R1k more? WRT brands, which is better? Assuming Asus?

Comments?

That Asus is real nice and made from aluminum so good quality. probably the closest looking laptop to a Macbook Pro you can get.
The Nvidia card is slightly better too.
My personal preference is 15.6" as it's more portable you can use the Hdmi out to connect to a LCD.

main issue is the power supply... USA uses 115V as apposed to our 220v so you may need to heft a bulky stepdown transformer with you.

Not true. All laptop power supplies these days are 100-240v so work fine on both sides of the pond.
