Getting a new PC this month

Like I said in the other thread I looked at the manufacturers product page. Not my fault they do not update their website.

So what's this backplate thing and can you buy it or does it need to be ordered? I.O.W is it a common component?

EDIT: Yeah I'm glad I made that choice thanks to someone that pm'd me about that MSI board. Thanks Rainy :) :)

I realise that, I only added this info because you hadn't corrected yourself yet. Trying to help the brother get an amazing deal.

Hmm ok thanks. I assume you need this to mount the fan. Why does it not just come with it anyway?

NO, not the fan, it's got nothing to do with the fan, it mounts the cooler securely to the motherboard, a more effective method than push-pins, and prevents over-tightening.
IT DOES come with the backplate for 1366 and 775, ..the others re extra due to them trying to keep overall prices down, ie. less accessories. Cogage is a price-conscious division of Thermalright.
Read my post again. Look at the Wootware link.

Keeping cost down by not supplying a mounting bracket for all CPU types is a slap in the face. It costs them next to nothing to manufacture AMD mounting parts as well as Intel.

Dude..I DID read your link. Thanks. Just did not understand that the "backplate" replaced the push-pins. I have a suspicion that this was what the backplate was for and I just wanted to make sure..Geez :erm: *hides from dudewotevr*

Ya ok whatever you read into my post is in your head, I was actually trying to help you, and clearly explained everything in my post.

Ya well 'm perfectly calm over here, so do chuckle away, it seems people don't like to read properly, and continue talking rubbish and making up stats which please them.

If you explained it clearly I would not have asked so many times :D Haha, ok dude just chill man, I know everyone has a bad day but just relax a bit.. There's no need to get aggressive over a small misunderstanding. I've had a long day too alright.. Gosh

Maybe I should use more smiley faces, seems it's the missing link in communication these dayz.. :P

Ya ok cool, but how could you understand me to be frazzled from that post? I can only deduce you're trying to get a juvenile rise out of me. You'll be sorely disappointed :)

HAHA I must add that I didn't know understanding the function of a backplate was that higher grade, especially if you had even bothered to look at any of the links and check out some pics, or read some reviews for yourself.

I'm unaccustomed to having to spoon-feed adults I guess. I'll tread more gently in future.

I think one thing...

Crossfire is very unstable with many games, especially with ATI Crappy Drivers (im not a nvidia fanboy - i have an 5870 :) )
So i think your best bet is to sell the 5850 and buy a 5870...
Or buy the 5870 and use the 5870 for something else etc...

Just one google search and you will see the problems with gaming crossfire style using ati...
I know for a fact that bc2 is very shoddy with crossfire.

To answer you question, this is a budget line of coolers for enthusiasts, so I expect that they sought to price the unit itself aggresively and then have separate backplates. I guess they probably saw LGA775 and LGA1366 as the most popular in their target demographic, since of the 3 Cogage coolers, only one is bundled with a 1156 bracket, and none with AMD brackets.

Why so angry dude geez? It was an honest question...Might I add I've never installed a custom cooler before so I didn't know..Geez it almost feel like I need to apologize for not knowing... :/. Just relax a bit man.

Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for.

Yeah I've come to know that as well. I was thinking to keep the 5850 and just go single GPU and see how it goes. I can always buy a second hand NVIDIA card to make use of PhysX in games..I'll see what happens :D

SO I built my new PC last night and everything went well! Worked the first time I switched it on, thank GOODNESS!

Just one thing I'm worried about, I can't install the AMD Processor driver on Win 7. I read somewhere that it's not needed on Win 7 and that it was just to fix a bug on the older windows versions of XP and Vista, is that correct?

You could try windows update to see if it finds any drivers for you?

Dont worry about the processor driver. It's not needed.
