Getting a SIM cut...

Hi guys

Thanks for all the (prompt) feedback. I see youtube has some videos on the topic. Have printed out the template.
I was just worried that the electronics part on the smaller SIMs would also be smaller... but seems that's all the same, they're just getting rid of more and more plastic.

Will give it a go shortly ;-)

Thanks, Ian

It is physically smaller but the pin outs/contacts are the same and hence cutting it has the same result.

Where I've had a problem is with the nano sim being thicker and having to "pad" the standard SIMs a bit for a flush connection but it depends on how the device works.

Paki cell shop did for me for free.

The Indian quoted me R20 but was advised against it as only 50/50 chance it would work... is full size SIM that has been cut down to smaller size already. Both Voda shops also said I could not cut it.

My old white and blue Vodacom SIM also had the big metal part and could not be cut, which is why I suggested the SIM swap to you, I bought a SIM at Ackermans and just followed the prepaid SIM swap process as I had found it somewhere on the web.

liars

lots of youtube videos available

If it is prepaid just do a sim swap.

If it's contract, MTN for example gives (used to give) one free sim change every 24 months (contract period). Else, for some unknown reason, the exact same piece of 99c plastic costs R160 to change on contract. I would stomp my feet at the network store if you have been a long time customer. Just ask the manager to change it for free.

Both Voda shops lied to you

I did the sim-swap at a Voda store, total cost R20 plus time and petrol spent running around. The other store wanted an affidavit from the cop shop as well as normal RICA ID and address.
So I learned that Voda shops are franchises and are not all equal....

Contract customers have to pay R60 for what I paid R20 for.

Thanks to all for the suggestions etc.

I used a scissor and the bits from a different sim card as a template.

I got a sim for 10c from Game which rounded down to nothing and did the sim swop over the phone in 10 minutes total wait time and sim swop process.
Was impressed by the competence of the operators.
