Hey guys, if you don't know already this website www.downstorm.co.za lets you download torrents to their server and then you download it from then over HTTP.

There is no cap on how much you can download from them.

I have been using their service since I got uncapped (512k), my torrents go at around 3kb/s average for the most part of the day but when I DL from downstorm I use my full line speed all day.

I have their 20GB account so I can download most torrents in 1 hit, but they also let you DL the parts of a torrent as well so if you want to Dl a 29GB torrent that is broken into parts of 550mb each then you can use a 1GB account from them and It'll work perfectly.

Another bonus (just speculation on my part) is for Afrihost customers, as I have read some of you are getting disconnected because you are DLing 'illegal' stuffs but with downstorm they should not have any way of knowing what you are downloading.

Just thought I'd inform some peeps, if you didn't know already.

That works well as long as that service is not a honeypot.

I wonder if the ISPs won't catch on to this and shape the downstorm IP?

A question that I do have is: How fast do they download to their server?

They have a 1GB/s connection, I downloaded around 18Gb to their server in less than half a day, although it depends on how many seeders there are for the torrent, they can only download as fast as the other peeps can upload.

There are similar services provided overseas for R70 for 10GB, much better deal. Then a local chap here on the forums is also setting one up...so far no space limits, but it's still in testing phase.

Yea, its hosted in amsterdam

Can you do me a favour? Please try upload a seedfile with non-Roman alphabets (file name/content name), such as Russian/Chinese and see if it will recognise the file and starts to download? I know torrentflux does not support non UTF8 file names.

I also tried downstorm and it works great. The one file was 4.5GB and it downloaded to their server in less than 2 hours. It is linked to Openweb. As mentioned before it is just the pricing that is a bit steep.

I am paying 10 pounds for 110GB discspace with 750GB upload limit. I would gladly support downstorm when their prices come down a bit

Also have a look at torrentflux.co.za, pm ReubenL for a test account... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?226810-Fast-torrent-downloads-www.torrentflux.co.za

Thank you for your interest in DownStorm.

We run a custom designed system, not based on Torrentflux or similar, thus the system supports 99% of all torrent files available, including private trackers. It does not have the limits of the Torrentflux system.

We are offering MyADSL forumites the following launch special:

10GB Storage for R99. If you signup before 30 April 2010, the price will be locked in for as long as you stay with DownStorm.

There are NO limits on bandwidth, amount of torrents you download at a time, or any other silly restrictions on the account. You have 10GB's of storage, and you can download as much as you like.

We also protect you from these lovely take down notices that the big companies sometimes use to bully us normal folk; not that you will be downloading illegal torrents of course! ;)

Accounts work per 30 days, thus if you signup today, you will have access until 28 May 2010.

To take advantage of this special offer, kindly email Chantelle - [email protected]

She cannot wait to hear from you.

P.S DownStorm does not just work on one IP - but dont tell the big bad ISP beasts that! hehe.

I like that all these services are popping up. It is pure capitalism at work...it's a good thing...and I love it :D

From a educational standpoint it is very interesting watching the South African internet market developing right now because it's happening so freaking fast!

Out of interest sake, one of the bonuses of these services is that the user doesn't have to seed.
However seeding is vital to the P2P systems.

How much seeding do these services do, or are they just heavy leechers?

Also, are you able to constantly add to your account for the month? For example, if there is a huge torrent (say 80gb) that you want to download...are you able to add 3 extra 20gb packs to your account for that month or do you have to do it in monthly bursts?
