Getting around the p2p shaping.

Hi Greylor,

Our torrents are seeded after download, unofficially.

Officially, we are currently implementing a free seeding bonus feature that allows clients to seed up to a 1.5 ratio at no extra charge. This actually makes our system Torrent Friendly, as we are not just taking, we are giving :)

Chantelle

Out of interest sake, one of the bonuses of these services is that the user doesn't have to seed.
However seeding is vital to the P2P systems.

How much seeding do these services do, or are they just heavy leechers?

Can you do me a favour? Please try upload a seedfile with non-Roman alphabets (file name/content name), such as Russian/Chinese and see if it will recognise the file and starts to download? I know torrentflux does not support non UTF8 file names.

Sure, I'll try, but where will I find a .torrent file with russian/chinese/japanese etc.?

I should not have posted here, I should have kept them all to myself... Well, lets hope they don't find out ^_^
There's a reason why other guys with workarounds chose to restrict their communication to PM ;)

Domains can be shaped, just ask the RS and MU users.

@Downstorm, will give you guys a try. Thanks for the info.

Thanks DownStorm for posting on my thread!

I think I'll try that 10GB for R99, is the cut off date on the 30th of this month and if I do get it will it overwrite my current 20GB account with you, or will the 20GB account continue until the 17th of may (30 days from when I got it if I can remember correctly)

We have been running DownStorm through varius beta stages for the last two years to iron out any bugs before going commercial. We aren't a company that suddenly decided to pop up a little script on our server and give away free accounts for a week. DownStorm is an international business.

I hereby extend the offer until 5 May 2010!

torrentflux.co.za has died. (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?227919-torrentflux.co.za-complaint-from-Warner-Bros) . Downstorm, what guarantees do we have that you will not be taken down and take our cash with you? And any chance you will extend your offer for a week or so longer? Some of us only get paid on the very last second of the last day of the month!

I use PowerNews, but its international, speeds are rubbish on our "uncapped" lines!

This is quite pricey if you look @ this.

https://www.santrex.net/torrenthosting.php

-+R140 gets you 70GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth and a choice of 5 countries where you would like the service.

Its a seedbox. Works the exact same way. Download p2p with the seedbox and download your files directly from the seedbox via ftp. It bypasses shaping on Mweb.

Ahh thanks for the tip! Looking into EasyNews now, unfortunately they seem rather pricey :(

"DownStorm Service

DownStorm allows the user to download legal torrent based files onto a central server. The user can in turn download the file /s at their leisure onto their local device. DownStorm does not allow the download of any illegal or copyrighted files onto its server network. Any user found to be downloading such files, will have their service suspended or terminated, without warning. This will be decided on a case by case basis. DownStorm cannot, and will not be held responsible for any files download onto their server network by the user. The user hereby takes full responsibility for their actions whilst using this product / service."

"Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless DownStorm, its parents and affiliates together with their respective employees, agents, directors, officers and shareholders, from and against all the liabilities, claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees and costs) arising out of your use of this website / service; your failure to use this website / service; your breach or alleged breach of this Agreement or your breach or alleged breach of the copyright, trademark, proprietary or other rights of third parties."

As the distributing party (ie: the seed), if Downstorm is prosecuted for copyright infringement (which they may well be if you, as a customer of theirs, download illegal content onto their servers), they are fully entitled to indemnify you for any and all damages arising from such a case, whether you personally were responsible for that data being downloaded to the server or not (read: share your account with some idiot that proceeds to download illegal goodies to the server and you, as the account owner, will be the one legally responsible, not him).

This isn't intended to dissuade you from using this kind of service, it's just a bit of whistle blowing to call your attention to ways in which you may place yourself in a potentially dangerous situation, legally. Use it for legitimate purposes and you'll have no problems.
