With cell numbers being recycled chances are excellent you will get assigned a number that used to belong to someone else, but what do you do if you are being harassed by calls looking for that person? I obviously have no clue who Wanzile is, but I'm getting tired of getting calls for them.

Is there anything I can do about it?

I do not have a recycled number and get calls for outstanding debt and threatening sms's quite often.

I just ignore then ask who they are looking for and ask them to check my number on truecaller.

Someone out there been building up debt for years and handing out my number.

I have the same issue. Keep getting called by standard bank, when I explain the situation the calls die down but then start all over again.

I think they keep reselling the debt.

i went through this. My contract was through Cellucity and complained to them. I explained that it was such that i was receiving calls daily and cant take it anymore. it was a new contract and not really a number i handed out so i had no issue changing the number.

what he did was, convert me to prepaid plan for that month, change the number once on a prepaid plan, and then convert back to my original contract plan the next month with the new number.

You may try this if you fine with losing the number.

or, what i also like to do if i have time on my hands, carry on speaking and acting like the actual person :o

I have a workmate who will spend 20 to 30 min talking with telemarkets or wrong numbers ,scammers etc. He does it so often it get's annoying . He really needs more work.

I get people phoning from a tanning spa in cape town, but from the name I assume my numbers previous owner was black!?

Tell them to get lost, you are not paying and they must just take you to court!

this is what I do

I have a similar issue with my landline.

Except it's for George line dancing... yes that's a thing and it's quite popular.

Lol, we have transitioned to a pay-as-you-go model at work. Since day one I have been called so many times, the same people over and over again. Legal demands are made over SMS and WhatsApp. Debt collectors, courts, etc. They always call me when I’m in a meeting, calling me reluctantly… and around 18:00. I have blocked so many numbers.

I have an idea that someone, or perhaps a syndicate, has harvested personal details and are impersonating multiple people.

Vorman's workaround might help.

Reading this thread makes me wonder just how large the problem of delinquency is in SA. How many people are unproductivity employed to chase up debt, and what a lousy job that must be ... how many are needlessly hassled daily because debtors are reneging on their promise to pay ... hundred of thousand of man-days lost to the already-weak economy ... Our society is in deep trouble.
