Getting contacts for the first time

It wasn't as bad as I thought. I can definitely get used to them. I have to try these for the next week before ordering a supply.

The optometrist said that it wouldn't be necessary to get glasses as well.

Thats what it feels like in the beginning... "not too bad"
But you'll learn young one you'll learn when they're dry and your eyeballs red and its late at night... oh you WILL learn!

yayayayaya!!! It is awsome not to wear specs when you no not want too :)

I decided to alternate ( if my eyes allow it.) one year get specs and the next contacts ( the test atleast and prescript) THen I should be sorted for my lazy days :)

The good:
Can't feel the contacts
No more shoving specs into position every other minute
Nice to have a full FoV again
No constant cleaning of specs

The bad:
I struggle to get them out. Don't know if it's my initial clumsyness but I had to try 6 times to get the right contact out. Leaving me with a red and irritated eye.

They contacts are no problem, it's me getting them out that's a problem.

I still struggle with that too. LOL!! It's just weird "pinching" your eyeball... or that is the idea. It gets better. LOADS of eyedrops and at some point your brain will say to your eyelid Stay open or hurt . :D

I still have to have a mirror though.

Day 1:
Managed to successfully insert the contacts by myself for the first time! At least I hope it's successful, I'm a bit concerned that I might have inserted them the wrong way round. I did check, and as far as I can tell the edges were all up and the lens gives a U shape. I'm hoping it's just part of the adjustment process, and when I tried them at the optometrist I had to walk around for 30 min so they could settle.

Yes, sort of pinch them out. It helps to have moist fingers if you struggle. Use of couple (only a small amount - it can be burny) of cleaning solution drops on your fingers. It might help.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm getting used to putting them in and taking them out. Much easier now.

The only concern now is that I noticed some very prominent red veins in the white of my eyes after wearing them for the suggested 5-7 hours.

Is this normal during the acclimation process or could it be trouble brewing?

Learn you will Obi-Wan... I noticed the same in the beginning (might just be cause you stare & pinch at your eye balls more often now)
This is how it starts then you notice a dryish feeling on somedays
Then you notice red eyes at the end of the day.
Some days are perfectly fine
And then just suddenly BOOM eye infection out of the blue.

Its always fine in the beginning... been wearing them for a while now but i insist on wearing daily disposables. New pair each day, no eye infection since the switch and less issues but these issues just happen on some days and klaar :(
I've found it best to wear contacts for max 3days then switch to glasses for atleast 2-3 days then back to contacts.
I frequently have days where it just feels dry on others i dont notice anything. I have eyes that tend to be dryish because i dont blink enough, but you might not have a problem with blinking and that alone will make your experience 10fold better than mine

It's your eyes being oxygen deprived. That is why you cannot keep them in 24 hours.
I bought nice gel eye drops that helps.

Ah, so it is normal then even though these are apparently contacts that let through lots of oxygen. She said if I should ever fall asleep with the contacts it should be a problem (not that I'm gonna try it!).

I'm really loving the contacts. They are much more comfortable than glasses. Taking them out isn't a problem anymore.

Jip it is normal. I'll check the name of those drops and post it. Just use Lube  :D
Eyedrops is the key. The contacts do let enough oxygen trough but not the amount your eyes are used to. We are always a bit red eyed :)

I read an article the other day about a toxin called BPA which is used to make plastic. The article also mentioned that BPA is used to make sunglasses and spectacles too. I wear spectacles and I am afraid that I might be exposed to that toxin. I just wonder if contact lenses have this BPA toxin? If is does then chances are that people wearing contact lenses will bear the brunt of the toxin since the lens is in direct contact with the eye.
