Just a quick question.
When I am looking for a quote to get the idea of the variance between car models who would be best to call?
No, I don't have a broker :p Unless you can recommend one to me but want to do some calculations as to what each car would come up to monthly everything included.

Dankie :)

I find that Discovery Insure are pretty reasonable. Plus if you opt-in for the free tracker install, and drive safely you get 50% off your fuel spend every month!

UP to a maximum value though, and you HAVE to fill up at BP for it to apply.

I have it. Most you can get is R750, depending on how much you fill up and how well you drive. Filling up at BP isn't too much of a hassle- depending on where you are

Drive a diesel and it can become a hassle...

The BP's in my area are all the most expensive for Diesel.

You also have to have house hold contents insured through Discovery Insure at a minimum value of R300 000 in order to qualify for the maximum discount.
No thank you ...

be prepared to give you ID number, address, phone number, what you had for breakfast, when you last had sex, the colour of you kitchen, how many shirts you own, how long you shower for, where you work, who you live with, your grandmothers maiden name, how many soldiers died in WW1, while you're paying for the phone call before you even get close to asking a question.

better hope you get through to the correct department or you'll have to do it all again.

YES! I have just found out the hard way, now that I have a diesel - first fill up was in Durban at Total, and next one at the local BP garage, and there was an 80 cent difference!

Or, you could phone Outsurance and get sorted out in ten minutes. :)

Why do people always turn simple things like this into a major mission??

Truthfully, it would be awesome if much like Midas, you could just enquire about the price of spares for your car of choice. Now I have to hold for 10 minutes. Go through a 10 minute sales pitch and only then be told they can only do one car per call :wtf:

Try claiming from Outsurance the you'll know why good things take time.

Spent more Hours on the phone with then when claiming that all the brokers before them during the quoting process combined.

Do you have to be a Discovery medical aid member to insure with them?

80c!? jeez, I bet you won't be going there again.. Was it not the 500ppm at the total vs the 50ppm diesel at the BP?

Go through a broker if you can. They earn their commission off you but 9/10 times you will be better off and end up saving money. Plus, it's easier to know you can go to someone in person if you have a query than speak to tens of mindless telesales drones to get to the correct department...

Decent broker referral would be appreciated. :)

Anyone with Outsurance is insane. Their premium for one of my cars was the same as what I'm now paying for 3 cars and half a bar household contents.

I've tried 4 brokers now (nevermind all the other usual companies), only one just beat Outsurance and that was because they had 50 different types of excess on my bike so in the end I gave them a pass too.
Claimed twice in 5 years now, both times payout was within 72 hours of my first call (call in, next day assess, next day payout) vs my mate at the office, through a broker it took him over a month to get the payout when he was burgled... both times...

Guess I'm insane

Where are you located? I am with a local company here in PE, I believe the smaller firms are more involved and they are more committed to sorting out any issues you might have.

@Archer, sorry to hear that mate. Maybe it's time to switch brokers (again)? :\
