Getting into web development

I've just got off the phone with someone asking me to come in for an interview for a junior wed design postion. If they offer me the position what should I realistically ask for salary-wise? Any advice about how to conduct myself given that I have no commerical design experience? Only what I've learnt in books and through doing designs for myself..

In Gauteng I imagine the salary would be R6000-R7000?
In Durban youd be lucky to earn R4000 as a junior.

Thread is a bit old but here is my 5c (there is not such thing as a 2c any more ...), ATM I am working with php and mysql - which i think are great especially for someone moving from just plain html - i got started by downloading mambo/joomla and trying to customise a few things ... from there i figured out how to use dreamweaver to connect to the sql database and from there I just started learning new stuff, I find it very helpfull to look as OS code to figure out how to do something as well ...

Frontend or serverside?

I think Nodejs is going to have a huge impact on things.
In the same way that wordpress sprung up a couple of years ago, I think the same is going to happen with Node..

Just remember this thread is almost a decade old. Don't know what the rules are on necroing on this site.

I would stay away from Angular 1. The new version is a massive rewrite moving to MVVM. Who knows if the industry will embrace it. React might be a better choice.

What is the best for developing hybrid apps?

No silver bullet there either. Best technology choice would based on the app requirements and weighing up all the pros vs cons of each candidate

Currently I use AngularjS plus cordova something to "compile" it

Except that there is no indication of when angular 2 will be released, and angular 1 apps will be able to run side by side and inside angular 2.
Angular 1.5 will include the component helper to make it even easier to convert these to ng2 components of you wish. You can also write ng1.x in typescript or es2015 and use ng2 style decorators right now. This lets you/ your team become familiar with how things are done, and will make the transition pretty painless when the time comes.

Absolutely no reason to not start any new projects using ng1.4.

Of course you can choose to use any tech that fits your needs and or skills.

Look at ionic framework. Gives you some good ui goodies that help you make native feeling apps for both platforms. Ionic uses angular. I would recommend ionic over vanilla angular + Cordova.

Nativescript also looks quite compelling.

That is what I use.

Ionic framework in other words AngularjS + cordova

If you call a motor and wheels a car, then sure, ionic = angular + cordova :p

I made one for WordPress, but I want to go all out.
