I'm trying to find out what type of motherboard my sister has because she recently downgraded from Vista to XP and now she's missed a few drivers.

The problem is that the PC came pre-installed with Vista and the drivers are on an LG recovery disk specifically for Vista. I don't think that the mobo has a model number imprinted on itself, and they threw all the booklets away. Smart, I know.

How to I find out what type of board she has? Bare in mind she is 200km from me so I can't check personally, and she is... quite computer illiterate.

The info will be on the first screen when you boot up.. press Pause/Break to read it.

Think that's the 2nd screen you're getting there.
Have to be quick.

SANDRA isn't free. I would recommend them using Fresh Diagnose but seeing as she doesn't have ethernet drivers installed, she won't be able to get either.

That was the first screen.

Tell her to take the side of the box off and get her to give you all the numbers she can see on the board... one of them is more than likely to be the right one. Its not that difficult to take the side off :)

I did. I'm hoping it has it on; some motherboards don't.

Windows Powershell then,
Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_ComputerSystem

Quickest way..........
Open cover - look near Ram/CPU slots or in between PCI slots - always thereabouts!

Download CPU-Z... free and very easy... there is a tab called motherboard

use CPUZ to determine the model.... (like the wisemen said in the first few posts)
