I have an i7 pc, with Windows 7 64 bit and 8GB or RAM, with a 500GB HDD (380GB unused)...but I get this message that the system is running low on memory. So I reboot, and it's fine for a few days...then I see as the days go by the memory usage just starts gradually going up over time.

Right now I have Outlook and Chrome open (one window) and memory usage is sitting on 90% of 8GB? I tried checking task manager, but all seems fine...nothing really being hogged.

A few Google results say increase the page file..but thats sitting on 8GB already.

Anyone had this problem before and know what could be causing this?

What is the memory usage like if you have just Chrome and just Outlook running?

When you look in task manager have you selected 'show processes from all users' in the processes tab?

Also a good idea to run a virus scan if you haven't already done so, preferably with more than one AV software and at least once in safe mode

in task manager click on memory to see the top memory abusers. I also found 8gb to be low just from chrome and a few other things I was running so i went 16gb. I think operating systems are graduating towards 16gb as standard because browsers are becoming more intensive.

Happens some app's don't unload from the ram why u need to restart

That extra bit is a crunt.
Damn...must be that extra bit...hehehe :p

Thanks for tips, will check it all out. Here I thought 8GB was plenty. Rebooted and it was on 35%, opened up Outlook, Chrome, SQl Server Management Studio, Skype, and Media Player...now it's on 50%. Grrr...

Will keep an eye on it and check as recommended above, thanks guys ;)

Try to leave computer on with Chrome not running and see if it helps.

In task manager click view > select colums and check handle count, then the program with the highest number will probably be your culprit.

Don't load what you don't need at boot time. Also, some AV progs are real hoggers as the daily definition updates make them top heavy after a while.

I'm running a humble 6 year old core 2 duo 2.4 GHz (E6600), 3G Ram, 580G setup, XP SP2. Got rid of the pagefile as always 2 odd Gs ram available. Also installed Clearmem (freeware) which is run through task scheduler set at 10 minute interval.

Definite improvement.

Just saying how it's worked for me.

As I understand, 32 bit is ok with 3G RAM. I do audio (various progs) and video editing (Vegas) and use the onboard graphics - no problem.

Windoze can be (is) a pita, but I've grown up with it since '89 (3.1 anybody?). Gotta wrestle with it, eventually gives in. BTW, I wasn't having problems, save for the swap file latency. Just couldn't figure the point of 3Gs RAM and only about 600Mb used.

Check out Clearmem (Freeware), seems to be a winning combo without having to page.

Best

Mike
