Hey Guys

Thanks for all your advises.. (by the way.. i'm a female.. as i was reading all of you just assumed i was male.. :p )

mm.. i can get the "fake" copy of win 7.. but i just wasn't sure whether my computer will be able to run it nicely or not..

Well.. i'll tell you guys what i think i will do..

I'm going to partition my hard drive into 2.. install win 7 on the other half.. and see how it runs on my computer.. and if it'll too slow.. i'll uninstall it..

Do you guys think it's a good idea?

THANKS for all the help!!

Merry X-mas!!!

^ ^

Sounds like a good idea to do the partitioning but make sure to use EasyBCD to remove the Windows 7 boot loader if you are going to uninstall it due to the slowness of your PC.
Merry Boxing Day.

P.S. Windows 7 RC is still free for all to use up until June (and March for some who don't enjoy bi-hourly shut downs).

whatever you do don't try and add an additional Xp hard drive so you can dual boot as Win7 will throw all its toys out the cot if it sees another hard drive with another operating system and it will start crashing and hanging up that it makes Win98 look like a Sunday afternoon picnic.

I have a setup like this (XP/7) and it works perfectly, but I may as well get rid of XP since I can't even remember when last I used it.

I'm busy loading W7 on my buddy's new Quad core-based PC. As you say, plenty of costly eye candy - I'll stick to my XP thanks.

Hey~

I would just like to ask..

my computer is:

Intel P4 3.0 GHz
1Gb Ram
450W
160Gb HD
GF 6600

Do you think it will be able to run window 7?

Well currently i'm using the window 7 theme.. and it sometimes lags a bit.. but it's fine most of the time..

Should i change? or should i stick with window XP?

Thanks

I had the same setup on a Intel motherboard with a TV card, creative live sound card. Win 7 ran fine, but the extra 1 GB ram as suggested would be a good idea. The problems came with the TV card and sound card. They had no support in Vista and the same in Win 7. I chose to replace with a new system and Win 7 (Home Basic). You have to follow your own mind. Use the opinions to make an informed decision. Your decision will probably be influenced by the amount of money you have available to spend.

What version of 7 do you have? There is a download available from Microsoft that allows you to run XP within 7.

Peter actually makes a good point. Windows is ridiculously expensive. Rather buy a new PC with 7. I had no intention of upgrading and then I bought a new PC. Now I'm so glad I have 7:)

Also agree with Peter.

I've got a Dual Core Asus notebook and will not be spending R2000 more to upgrade from Vista Business to Windows 7 Pro. Just aint worth it.

Will wait till I feel like a new notebook and get a Mac.....just kidding, Windows 7. :)

Ja, a valid point.

I see no reason to upgrade until such time as MS drops support for WinXP.

Even if Microsoft drop support for WinXP, I would still be using it.

Its so well documented by now, that its not likely you'll come across a problem that has not got a solution for it.

This functionality, from what I know, is only available on specific processors... Will try find the list now.

Ok, the list doesn't seem to be available anymore, but your processor needs to support either AMD-V or Intel VT for XP Mode to work on Windows 7
