Geyser timer solution for solar

Just buy a 2kw element for R300. Turn breaker off, drain geyser, remove element, fit new element, turn water back on and let it fill up, turn breaker back on.
And watch as it takes 5 hours to heat water

Just having a mixer tap in the middle uses hot water, doesn't matter if it's hot to touch or not it's still using hot water.
A heat pump monitors the geysers temp better as well so 55 is 55 and it also only turns back on when it will hit 52.
I know, thats why I walk through the house every day and turn them all to the cold side. Never ending job.

tried it out , its exactly as @Lupus said Just takes forever to heat up - you using the same amount of power(maybe more as it might run a lot longer) - yes less taxing on the inverter but just not worth it
cheap experiment luckily -
Yes but what can you do when you have a 5kW inverter? One thing we have is time. Whats the rush? Have you tried setting it to 70?

Times like this it helps to have a good setup: the geyser is on the non-critical line on the inverter, so it will get solar power when there is, mix with AC if solar generation or inverter capacity is insufficient, and go down with loadshedding so it doesn't overload the inverter. :-D

That, and a 5500W Sonoff, Raspberry Pi, and NodeRed.

It would actually work out a tad more.

thats why i went with 8kw - plus im the 2 geysers in series guy

i live with lizard people and you not sure if the day will remain good so try to get the geysers sorted by latest 2pm

yup , on the good PV days one goes to 70 on the great PV days both go to 70
I meant with 2kW. Trying to save @cavedog buying an 8kW inverter.
