gfx card help

Hi guys
what would be the best card to get that's one below gtx 280( too pricey) or similar.
note ati or nvidia, i don't mind either.
 
You cannot go wrong with the HD4870 - dunno how the new GTX260 216's perform in relation to the 4870s though. Just shop around to get the best price on them.
 
1gig! 512 just doesn't cut it anymore, the hole resolution thing is bogus cause even on 22'' and below certain games use more than 512

correctus if you have a 20' or lower size monitor 512 is more than sufficient to power any of those monitors. The higher the ram doesn't necessary mean the more powerful the GPU in fact in most benchmarks the 512 comes up tops

oh btw ATI 4870 is the current price/performance king!
 
@ Fishfly. maybe below 22" but every1 says 22'' and below. Personal experience says otherwise. Farcry2 my system with xfire 2x 4850 512(res 1650x1080) gets beaten buy a single 4870 1gig(1600x1200). And for GTA4 limits graphics according to you memory so it obviously plays alot bigger role than most ppl make out.

Not here for debates my opinion 1gig is the way to go unless you aiming at 1024x768(sarcasim) and if you buying a 4870 im pretty sure your screen has decent res.
 
ATi 4870 1Gb is the way to go :D....
Some personal experience try find a HIS 4870, they build nicely and stay cool with the IceQ4 cooler on there, or the Force3D 4870. It also has a aftermarket cooler using Artic Cooler and believe me it works sooo well.

Im not lying, LOLS but I know someone who just got 2 Sapphire 4850 Toxics running in Crossfire and and... wait for it...... wait..... Hes playing at 1024x768 ROFL!!! HAAHAHAH wat a chop. Hes got this monster of a PC but a 17inch CRT.
And he ses hes dissapointed in the performance increase. Im like ya dude HTF u gonna get a increase at 1024... wat a chop. Sorry this off topic hehe :rolleyes:

Haha ok so maybe some ppl like power without ways of using it. To be honest im not happy with xfire 4850's but i've got 1650x1080:D

Haha then if i had a 280GTX i'd be a very sad(7 grand less) owner. I get major lag on Prince of Persia 4 in certain areas, and ocasionally on call of duty 5. Maybe they new and have bad CF support OR its the hole 512mb memory thingy

Which is why i recommend 1gig:D

Most likely there's just something wrong with your setup or board or psu.

What psu do you have?
 
I get 9500+ on vantage which is wat CF 4850's get accordingly to guru3d.com

I have a raidmax 700watt
