Ok here's the prob

Got a cheap 2nd Sapphire X1600 pro AGP, slotted it into a working Asus P5PE-VM in a Antec MSK3300 (300watt psu)

Push power button...all lights and fan comes on...dvdrom spins...hdd makes a bit of sound then stops....and stays that way...for a long time

Tried it a few times then gave up and went for lunch....came back pushed button....then....
it works!
tested it all night, played some games, encoded some files...

Next day morning....works fine still, everything normal....ok call my friend to come pick it up....

4pm....he comes....problem is back....all lights and fans comes on....no splash screen, no nothing....nothing nothing nothing...blank screen, no video input....tried with a 9250...works fine....tried with onboard....works fine....tried 6600GT...works fine....

Is this an incomparability issue or is this card just whack?
I dont wanna go back to the guy I brought it from and krap all over him to find out its my prob....like I did with an ADSL router a while back :p

Well gonna do bios update later tomorro if I cant find no solution...any advice anyone?

only thing i can think of is make sure the card is in right.

otherwise it is possible that the card might have a dry joint or something.

you could always try the card in another pc

well its working again...first time trying
I did a psu calculation and under full load and 20% capacitor deterioration this pc would use 297watts....but yeah

oh could it be eskom by any chance? the light seemed a bit dim last night

Try the card in another PC and see if it gives the same problem. The GPU may be demanding more power than the PSU can provide.

PS: Those PSU calculators are rubbish. Apparently I need a 214W for my Dual Core, 2GB RAM and 8600GT.

and what do you need?

Umm but if it was the psu, then why would it work in the mornings and late at night?

And the nsk3300 chassis is bloody small...dont think I can find a replacement psu that size with higher power.

And the 6600GT works fine....it should draw the same amount power

Maybe I'll swap it with the GT then
