Proteas' opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs has been sent home after breaking a team curfew on the evening before Wednesday's Standard Bank Pro20 International against Bangladesh.

He will take no part in the three-match MTN ODI series against the same opponents which starts at Potchefstroom's Senwes Park on Friday.

The selectors have decided not to replace him in what now becomes a 13-man squad and it is likely that Justin Ontong will open the batting with Hashim Amla until such time as Graeme Smith becomes available again.

“Herschelle's behaviour is unacceptable in the context of team discipline,” commented national coach Mickey Arthur.

End of the road for Gibbs? Pretty unacceptable from a "senior" member of a professional/international sports team.

Gibbs hasn't been in hot water for the first time ! As a veteran in the game, he has shown very poor leadership.

AB & Duminy to open...

This clearly proves he is a drug addict. Crystal meth to be precise. ;)

Poor Gibbs.

His (ex) wife is getting to him. The monthly payments to her equivalent of winning the lottery, is enough to make anyone want to drink a tot or 2.

Clearly he needs another drink.

LOL @ Gibbs!

We'd do a lot better if these anal disciplinarian managers would STFU and let Gibbs play.

Well guys i think his divorce has hit home hard with that money grubbing cow.

Pre-nup (spelling) is all i have to say.

Lol, I say if he performs on the field he can do what he wants in his private life... as long as it doesnt make him late/not pitch for practice and he is doing well I see no problem with his private life.

I think many people my agree with that, but these international players are supposed to be role models for kids...these are the harsh requirements of playing at this level. You have no life of your own.

Can't handle it? Go find an office job or something :)

Well he is a damn good batsman. Can score 100 runs whenever he wants. Pity about the divorce. No possibility of sorting it out with his ex. She just wants the $$$.
