Giff us the uncapped.

I wasnt being serious.
You know that right ?
Hehehehe
Nah Im just saying that people definately dont get iburst for its mobility.
Most people get it (from previous feedback and posts) as a fixed solution when ADSL is not available.

Dusk... I know that.

I just could not wait to use that picture!!!

I think in the past it was also used for mobility, I still use it for this purpose sometimes cause 3G is still expensive. But yeah most people use it cause of no Telkom fixed lines or no ADSL enabled Telkom exchanges in their area.

At the moment I am running Screamer Wimax and iBurst side by side at my townhouse :P

But if you could choose you would run ADSL ?

ofc :)

Though I have had bad expeirence with telkom taking forever to repair my adsl line when it was faulty. You cant escape Hellkom there :(

I was on WebAfrica 2 years ago.

Well then Iburst is an inferior product , no ?
Since its an ADSL replacement it should be competitive, and its not because of reasons i will not utter here for fear of getting blamed for spamming .

I dont think its a true ADSL replacement, they are completely different technologies, iBurst technology does have its limitiations compared to ADSL.

Yet they charge more . Explain the logic in that please ?

I got no idea, that you need to ask iBurst. I dont know what the costs involved running iBurst ISP andn etwork and so far we only got one iBurst ISP in SA.

Its like comparing 3G pricing to ADSL, its still bit more expensive. Obviously there is a reason for this.

I am wondering how SA iBurst pricings is compared to other iBurst services overseas. Anyone know?

Kilobits, is that you? Did you call or did you email the boss?

Heeeeey Rustum....

I was advised last week here on MyBB not to call their helpdesk unless it was for something technical... for package related stuff to email Laurie directly... so I took that advice and tried it this morning.

I am truly impressed.

Laurie actually listened to my request... then...
he offered something that I may actually make use of... then
he activated it immediately AND with no further charges!!!

So... I emailed the boss and am still smiling!

Wait and watch all this WOOT WOOT Mweb luuurve go south soon....

Hmmmm... interesting point.

I know that IBust Australia has closed it doors last year... went bust and could not compete with 3G speed / pricing.

Just becarefull before you start jumpimg at every uncapped offering, look at Screamer and MTN Business. Both gave amazing offering which quickly became unmanageable. After 3 months the service degraded to a point which made it unusable.

I feel the same.... in a way... hence I said... Wait and watch all this WOOT WOOT Mweb luuurve go south soon....

Well, ADSL players don't have pay to support copper. It's all on Telkom's shoulders.

iBurst (not Telkom) have to take care of all towers/base stations.

Towers/base stations very limited in volume (was reading a small pdf file from kyocera website), it said 24Mbits per base station/tower.

That's my thoughts. There is an essay by JvZ in that sub-forum, why ADSL economy differs from wireless...

Aye that correct, but I think our iBurst towers can handle abit more than that though.

Thanks Kilo.

I have in the meantime had my people talk to their people; deals are being struck as we speak.

That's true if you look at it from their POINT OF VIEW. But tell me please, why should we? After all we have our own bills to pay. iBurst is not a 3G/HSDPA replacement because it's not as portable as they are, it's also much slower although substantially cheaper. For many of us, iBurst is/was the wired internet equivalent because we didn't want to go through the trouble of getting a Telscum line, set up Wifi Network on a router etc. For those people, ADSL = iBurst = 3G in terms of bare function and we compare on value proposition. It's a pity that it costs iBurst so much to maintain these towers but at the end of the day when MWEB offers me UNCAPPED access at 4x iBurst speed for R899 (incl line rental) and iBurst offers me R955 for 15GB hardcap then it becomes kind of crazy to continue with iBurst when you can use MWEB.
So I'm applying for MWEB ADSL 4mbit uncapped but will continue iBurst until that service pans out and I'm satisfied with it. At that stage I may go on iBurst prepaid and use iBurst as a backup only UNLESS iBurst becomes cheaper than R899 for uncapped access - and even then it's 1/4 the speed of ADSL.

I can remember that circa 2001 iBurst was cheaper (and faster) than telkom dial-up (and telkom adsl).

How things have changed...

iBurst was cheaper than ADSL (for me at least) till not long ago. Of course MWEB's offer has totally changed that.
