Hi,

I just bought the above mentioned MiniPCI (not pcmcia) card for my Acer Aspire 1360 Notebook, I installed the card, and drivers, and everything is fine, except that the notebook doesn't appear to have the normal external antenna fitted (suppliers claim it should), and the card didn't come with any.

As a result, I can't connect to anything.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the external antenna cable?

Very frustrating this.
 
yeah, 2 small little nipple type connectors ... it has an "internal" antenna, but it appears to be so weak, that once fitted to the notebook, it can't actually pick anything up, even when right next to the AP. I've tried it in another notebook (that has got the external antenna), and it works fine, picks up the AP etc.

I was messing around with an old Laptop here at the office, and discovered it had an empty Mini-PCI slot in it.
So I did the same (only, I used an Atheros based CM-9 card that does 802.11a/b/g) and discovered that there was no internal antenna.

I took a spare whip antenna and pulled the radome off, and inside was a nice little piece of PCB that fitted snuggly underneath the keyboard of the laptop.

Luckily, I work with all this stuff on a daily basis and happened to have a broken (read: manhandled) UFL to N-Type pigtail (the N-Type connector broke off) that I soldered on to the little PCB and then plugged into the CM-9.

Voila.

On the other hand, DaLemon (another Jawug guy who now works at Uniterm Direct) fitted an SMA connector to the outside of his laptop with a pigtail to a CM-9 that we installed in his laptop.
He has an assortment of Pigtails that he carries around in his backpack, so we can do some nice wardriving with directional antennas, etc. :P

Do your company maybe sell a cable with a " MMCX " connector on the one end and a " N-type Male " connector on the other end?

daffy ... is there anywhere that I can buy the cable for my notebook though? Miro said they need my laptop in order to make one, but I can't afford to send it in for things like that. :(
 
hardware disabled?

Okay I think im in the right thread. I have a problem thats kind of similar. I got my GN-WIAG01 from a hypersonic laptop from my friend. he gave me the pci mini card, and the 2 antennas, when i use the the utility that i downloaded from the gigabyte website. windows says its enabled but it cannot connect to any wireless point. the utility says that the hardware is disabled. when it was hooked up to my friends computer i noticed that there was a wire connected to one of the antennas, im not sure if i need that or not, i thought it was just a grounding wire or something.
